FAA sticks to its guns on not allowing solo glider flight for out ofcurrency power pilots by [email protected]
The FAA is sticking to its guns in holding that a rated power pilot who is out of currency in his power rating cannot solo in a glider when the transition pilot is not current (no current flight review) in his other rating. The most recent legal opinion is dated today, April 27, and addressed to...

Towing by Roger Fowler
I recently rode with a towpilot who leaned the engine aggresively after retarding throttle at the start of the descent. While he is probably correct that it slows the rate of cylinder cooling significantly, I had never seen it done before. Is anyone else using this procedure?

Silver Badge Fun (?) - real challenges? by Nyal Williams
Location, location, location! A well-known US pilot had the gold altitude and distance certified when he had a total of 19hrs gliding time and had not yet done the 5-hr flight. He is a person for whom I have enormous respect, a natural, but he still had to have the location at that stage of the...

Ka-6 Rigging by vontresc
Well I finally got out in my (new to me anyways) Ka-6 the other day, and I was wondering if anyone out there has some tips to make assembling it any easier. Ideally I'd like to get to a system where I wouldn't have to bother fellow club members too much for help. I figure as long as I keep the beer...

Towing a single place glider trailer with a Ford Ranger or Chevy S-10 by [email protected]
Does anyone have any experience towing a single place glider trailer with a Ford Ranger or Chevy S-10? I am considering purchasing one of these trucks, but am concerned they may not have enough mass to be stable while towing a trailer.

The US distributor of Aeros hang gliders has announced that the Ukranian company's ultralight sailplane has had it's first flight. This craft was built using the wing of Aero's rigid wing hang glider, the Stalker. It was designed to be towed up by the same tugs hang gliders use. I wonder what...

High Speed Passes & the FAA by JJ Sinclair
Isn't there an FAR that says aviators will not fly below 500 feet, if over people, places or things, unless they are in the act of landing? This question was asked by a pilots wife/crew at a nationals. Her motorhome was located on a permanently closed runway about 500 feet from the active runway....
