Twenty years! by
Bob Kuykendall
I was poking around on the Web looking for information about wave
soaring, and I happened to notice that in a few days it'll be the 20th
anniversary of Bob Harris' 17 February 1986 wave flight to 49,009 feet
absolute, with a height gain of some 39,900 feet.
What I remember most about the flight...

Akaflieg Arnold winter 2020 build session 27 January through 2 February by
Bob Kuykendall
HP Aircraft is hosting another of its "Akaflieg" build sessions at our Arnold CA facility from 27 January through 2 February 2020. At this session we'll be installing wing internals (spars, ribs, control system parts) in a new set of all-carbon wings for HP-24 sailplane. We might also be making a...

O2 Cylinder Sizes - What are people using these days? by
Bob Kuykendall
I'm looking to develop a standard O2 cylinder installation for the
HP-24 sailplane kit, and I'm curious what size cylinders people
generally have installed these days.
These days a lot of folks seem to be using EDS systems which seem to
offer very good efficiency at turning pressurized gas into...

Who got the Colorado DG-505? by
Bob Kuykendall
Just curious if anybody on this forum knows who won the salvage
bidding for the DG-505 that hit a fencepost in Colorado:

It's cool if nobody wants to fess up, I'm just curious.
That wing looks like it might be repairable,...

Quite, quite unlikely.
The foam used in sandwich core composite construction is closed-cell
foam that does not admit water beyond the first layer of cells. And
even that layer is sealed by the sandwich skin so...

Five-foot-wide glider trailer? by
Bob Kuykendall
Some while ago I saw an article on the Internet about building an
oversize glider trailer. I seem to recall that it used a steel tube
truss that was about 60" wide and about the same tall. However, today I
tried all the search terms I could think of and couldn't find it. Does
anybody here remember...

FLYING magazine safety article by

In the May 2005 issue of Flying magazine (yes, I am behind in my

In the article Bruce talks about bullfighting, airshows, auto racing,
Roman gladiators, and others as...

RESTRICTED CATEGORY TOWPLANES by
Bob Korves
Judy,
Help me to understand the FAA legalese here. We have Pawnees that are in
Restricted Category and say 'Glider towing' on the Airworthiness
Certificate. Does this change mean that we no longer need to consider going
to Normal Category to placate the FAA?

Sailpane Hangar for 2 Sailplanes by

I think I remember a posting which described a sailplane hangar for two

of the hangar. Any info or web links to this site would be...
