V2 Google Earth Pro changes by
[email protected]
Bummer! Bummer! Bummer! Darn you Google!
The current GEP no longer lets user locate a point by coordinates. This was perfect for cataloging waypoints. Seems Google has also removed the feature allowing map rotation and tilt view. These were a very useful XC/contest soaring features. Again,...

To Boldly Go by
kd6veb
Hi Gang
In the latest "Flying" magazine, October 2010 issue is an article
named "To Boldly Go" by Peter Garrison. This article is a perceptive
review and discussion of Dave Bigellow's accident in his DG400 over
the Big Island of Hawaii in January 2009 when Dave was attempting a
record high...

The "Silly Season" by
Tom[_9_]
It’s spring! Let the soaring season begin.
We call this “The Silly Season,” when otherwise safe, competent pilots
do the dumbest things often resulting in accidents.
Glider clubs and commercial operations around the country conduct
spring safety seminars to help pilots get their head in the game...

What happened to archives? by
Mike[_28_]
Maybe I missed something, but what happen to the RAS archives?
Seaching the group for something like LS4 results in 5 hits - all from
last month.

GPS-NAV - IPAQ cabling quest by
Guy Byars
I want to use the serial cable attached to the docking cradle of my IPAQ
3800 to connect to the serial port on a GPS-NAV. Does anyone know the
pin -to- pin connection schematic for this cable? Or is it a plain null
cable?

Sky Sailing in Early March? by
Jeremy Zawodny
I need to be in the San Diego area for a conference in early March and
am contemplating taking a few extra days off and driving down there
(from the SF Bay Area) with my glider rather than flying. I've done
this before, going to Pasadena and flying two days at Great Western
Soaring...

OLC question by
Greg Arnold
The OLC will reject a Cambridge file that does not have the G-Record.
It has rejected my file that was recorded by SeeYou Mobile in my Ipaq.
Yet a friend has no problem with getting it to accept a file that he
records in his SN-10.
I believe the SN-10 file has no security. Does anyone know why...

Soaring over the Scablands by
chris
Just watched the PBS Nova program "Mystery of the Megaflood".
Fascinating program, and the landscape left behind in Eastern
Washington state is beautiful and somewhat bizarre. Is it easy or safe
to fly cross country over the "scabland" features? Are these sights
reachable from Ephrata?
See the...

Re Artical Tailplane/Elevator tubublators by
Ronald E Baker
To all those who responded re original article I offer my apologies. There
were two articles, and to use an Aussie expression they have gone
"Walkabout" or just plain "Missing". I will still keep searching, and will
let you know if or when I find them. Sincerely, Ron Baker (Australia)

Turning radii and spanwise airspeed distribution by
JJ Sinclair
Good observation, Bill. Most long wingers have found it best to keep the nose
pointed towards the outside of the turn. It helps the climb. Your yaw string
should be telling you to, "Put your foot in the inside hole". Just don't do it.
Does that make sense?
JJ Sinclair
