PC Soaring Simulators & Equipment by Roy Clark, B6
Home this weekend as predicted high temp for Ephrata (Washington, USA) today is 108 F (42.2 C) with onshore coastal flow that kills any lift early in the afternoon. Interested in PC Soaring Simulator programs and equipment (joystick, rudder pedals, etc.) that soaring pilots are using. Especially...

Paint on trailer tops by Ed Gaddy
We painted our Comet trailer with Supercoat. It is a paint for metal buildings. You find it a building supply store. It is white, very reflective, and will reduce heating inside the trailer. It is flexible, sticks well, and will seal cracks and leaks. We applied it with rollers and brushes. The...

First hand information on A21 at San Geronimo, Texas by James Romano
I am (was) the other owner of the Caproni that went down at San Geronimo AirPark. I'd like to provide factual information that may prevent some rumors that appear to be floating around. There were four of us that assembled the Caproni. My partner in the aircraft, his business partner, and my son....

Puchacz shock cord (bungee) failure by [email protected]
This weekend one of the bungee cords that serves as the shock absorving element of the main landing gear of our SZD 50 Puchacz was found to be broken. The symptom was a weird noise coming out the main wheel area while the plane was taxiing back for a relaunch. The plane had a uneventful landing...

Dittel FSG-71M LCD by Marc Ramsey
I have a circa '92 Dittel FSG-71M in a newly purchased glider which works fine, except that the LCD is in bad shape. The digits are barely readable due to lack of contrast, the LCD glass looks to have sustained some sort of damage. Has anyone replaced one of these? Marc

Logbook Reg. Question by Slick
I'm looking for where in the regulations it says what an instructor must log in a student's logbook. All I've been able to successfully find is the part about how an instructor must sign a student's logbook. I know what has to be there, but I want to see it in the regs. ----== Posted via...

Two very fun students by Bill Daniels
This week I had the pleasure to fly with a couple of freshly minted 2nd Lt.'s from the US Air Force Academy class of 2006. They were converting their glider time from the USAFA soaring program to civilian CFIG's. To say this young lady and gentleman are "good sticks" would be an understatement. ...

About how much does a 1969 Eisenburg Gruber model APR 1812 trailer weigh? by [email protected]
Yes, it's a glider trailer. Looks kinda like a two-wheeled torpedo with only one fin. I'm not clear if I can tow one even empty as the person who has it doesn't know either. I'm limited to 1500 lbs. Gliders are light, so I figure the trailer might be too. But at 28 ft long I doubt it...

Tow vehicle -- electronic stability control by Greg Arnold
My understanding is that electronic stability control is a device that selectively applies individual brakes in an attempt to prevent oversteer and understeer. Does anyone know whether this reduces the swaying of a tow vehicle, or maybe even increases swaying if the device reacts too slowly?

SeeYou 3D and Google Earth by [email protected]
Have any of you been able to use Google Earth 3D maps with SeeYou for 3D representations of flights. I think SeeYou 3D is excellent in all respects except for the detail of their 3D maps. Google Earth is at least a couple of magnitudes better in detail. With a fast computer, a good video card and...
