May 30, 2006 Pre-Contest Report:
Pilots John Byrd, Bill Snead and Tom McKnight have already positioned

Snead and Mimi McKnight relax in the shade of my picnic area next to my
big hangar on Marfa Airport. My bermuda grass is...

Microsoft I.E. 7.0 and OLC by
Ray Lovinggood
I just installed Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 and
now, I can't get to the flight 'info' window on the
OLC page. I guess that page is a 'pop-up' and I do
as the screen reads: Hold down the control key when
clicking on the link. But that doesn't work. I also
turned off the 'block pop-up' tool,...

Memorial day USA by
Ken Bell
To say that you cheer when anybody is killed is tasteless
and foolish. I have read a few of your posts even though
they are often pointlessly argumentative and bigotted.
This one though, was just too much!
If you can't say anything sensible say nothing.

Nimbus 2 flaps settings by
John Orton
I am participating in the rebuild/repair of an early Nimbus 2. The serial
number is in the range 40 to 50. It is definitely a Nimbus 2 not Nimbus 2a.
The fligth manual that we have does not give details of the flap deflection
at the intermediate settings only the full deflections. The data sheets...

Attention Cambridge GPS-NAV, OLC and SeeYou users--v3.5 is now current by
Doug Haluza
SeeYou V3.5 has been released with the Cambridge GPS-NAV Model 10/20/25
fix for OLC claims. If you use the GPS-NAV for OLC claims with SeeYou,
you need to download this new release. SeeYou v2.82 through v3.4 used a
windows DLL to convert the CAI file, and this was not completely
compatible with the...

MOA's by
Kilo Charlie
It may be of interest to some to watch the happenings of what is going on
wrt Luke AFB in Arizona and their impression of our holding a contest here
for 6 days that will involve traversing some MOA's. It seems that their
commander pretty much feels that we really don't belong there and are a
clear...

Wanted SZD Jantar STD 2 wing tip by
[email protected]
Need a SZD Jantar STD 2 wing tip in good shape, I´m not looking for a
long piece, the last 20cm (8") will do as long it retains the internal
structure and the airfoil contour is in good shape. This is for a
winglet design and I don´t want to cut mine. I´m in Brazil and I´ll
gladly pay a reasonable...

Promoting Soaring by
303SAM
Tried to get some info via the 'Gladiators' thread w/no luck...
Are any efforts underway to get Gladiators broadcast? If so, how can we
support those efforts. If not, who has some connections we can leverage?

Gliders, transponders, and MOAs by
Greg Arnold
This is what a current USAF fighter pilot says:
"Some fighters can "see" transponders. I'd recommend Mode 3-1200, just
like other VFR traffic. However, we don't always go around
interrogating them, especially in a MOA where there is usually less
civilian traffic. The military radar controllers...

Gladiators of the Sky DVD by
303SAM
This is the story of the recent Soaring Gran Prix in NZ. It is
exceptionally well done and I recommend it to everyone on this list. I
think what they've done is right on target for making the excitement and
beauty of soaring accessible to a wide audience. The air to air shots are
fantastic.
I'd...

Miserable life without flying by
[email protected]
Her name is Anna, she is a teenager in Poland, now graduating high
school.
Anna wanted to fly gliders very bad. I have never met a person in my
entire life that wanted to learn to fly that bad. The problem is that
she has no money to learn to fly.
Today the cost of flying in Poland is as high as it...

Q about elevator balance by
Ken Ward
I removed the elevator from the horizontal stab the other day for an
inspection of the pivot pins/bushes. The elevator has got a bunch of
weights attached to it, extending forward of the pivot location.
1. This is a humble question: does the elevator weight have a purpose
other than balance? ...
