Marfa Task areas & directions by
chris
I am planning a trip to Marfa TX for next summer. Several pilots in
the group want to attempt long flights, including some FAI length O&R
and Triangles.
300km, 500km, 750km and 1000km lengths. These lengths put you over a
lot of ground.
I'd like some advice from experienced Marfa/Hobbs pilots on...

Texas Winter Down Wind Dash Contest? by
Snead1
We have had very little rain in Texas this fall. Is anyone interested in a
handicapped open distance contest during December, January, and February?
Longest handicap distance flown in Texas wins.

So EAA gets to be a millionaire by
John H. Campbell
Congratulations to our sport flying friends at the Experimental Aircraft
Association for orchestrating the introduction to flight of 1 million kids
14-17! EAA achieved its ten-year goal mid-November just a bit ahead of
schedule, in time for the Centennial of the Wright brothers' powered flights
of...

Two radios on one headset by
unt
Hi
We try to have on one headset to radios. One radio is a aviation radio the
other a all-people-radio with a range of about 2 km. What we want is to have
is a master-slave funtionality. If the master gets a signal the slave should
be quiet. Do you have any idea if there is such a thing to buy in...

REFINISHING by
Ventus B
All,
I have been looking into having my glider refinished. Casual
conversations with other pilots revealed that most think a "normal"
refinishing job would cost about $10k. After speaking with Gaines in
Georgia, I believe that is wildly optimistic. Gaines charges $60 per
hour, and he says the...

Instruction Idea by
Scott
This is just my idea, but I think it is a good one. I think during the
instruction before solo, a studnet should have to experience flying close to
another plane. I'm at a quiet gliderport and all through my instruction I
cleared before release and cleared turns, but I didn't know what I...

SN-10 database management software by
Kirk Stant
Anyone out there come across any really useful software for managing
SN-10 *.ndb files? I use SiteMan, but it is laborious and too "cute",
and doesn't allow looking at all the waypoints in a
spreadsheet/database format. SeeYou has a tool that looks better, I
have only just started to play with...

To Walter Eisele and Comrades by
John
Give it up, Walter!
Nobody will buy your Eastern block manufactured "pseudo-LS" crap, and you
will only succeed in 2 things:
1. Causing the extinction of some exquisitely beautiful sailplanes.
2. Having you and your 'secret investor' go bankrupt.

iPaq wiring, cradles and mounts for gliders - Ideas?? by
Jim Kelly
Greetings!
Anyone found a cradle for an iPaq that suits use in a glider and
doesn't require amputation of a limb to pay for it??
We are considering standardising the mounting facilities in our club
fleet and the costs of multiple cradles seem prohibitive at this
time.
The main hurdle to overcome...

glider transponder by
Chris Marren
Can anyone (maybe a Dutch gliderpilot) offer advice
to fitting a 175watt Becker transponder to a Ventus?
This is new to us in the UK. Type of aerial and the
best location for it? Does a carbon fibre fuselage
give problems? I'm thinking of putting the aerial in
the wheel bay.

Tow position, posting and the truth by
Bill Wallace
Mark Boyd from first post:
So for my flight review in Avenal yesterday, we did a bunch
of slack line corrections. We did them during one tow,
but broke the rope. 150' of rope ($12), two schweizer rings ($20),
one tost ring ($35), a carabiner (sp?), two half-wiffle...

Anyone need glider transport east to west? by
Mhudson126
I will be out in Pensylvania until the end of January, and was wondering if
anyone needed a glider transported from the east to Albuquerque, New Mexico? I
can deviate to Colorado or Arizona or any place reasonably on the way between
the two points if needed. Willing to pick up from Knauff, M&H,...

Strobes by

Some years back there was an article (maybe several?) in SOARING magazine
about installing tip strobes on gliders ...
Anyone remember/know what issue(s) that was in? I'm researching collision
avoidance stuff (again, still . . gr)
(Boy, do I wish there was a good INDEX to Soaring! I've got...
