Nimbus 2 flaps settings by
John Orton
I am participating in the rebuild/repair of an early Nimbus 2. The serial
number is in the range 40 to 50. It is definitely a Nimbus 2 not Nimbus 2a.
The fligth manual that we have does not give details of the flap deflection
at the intermediate settings only the full deflections. The data sheets...

iPAQ 310 serial by
John Orton[_3_]
Hi
Does anyone have any info on what serial port is connected to the USB on an
iPAQ 310/312.
I am trying to help setup one with XCsoar and feed in Flarm data as well. I
have the Flarm data at the correct voltage levels but I can't work out what
serial port the iPAQ thinks is...

Ka-6CR by
John Price
It's a fine ship. Pay attention to the comments about
pre-buy inspections, though. Gren Siebels flew one
for several years and he was 6'+. The E model is more
comfortable yet.
Personally, I wouldn't buy a 1-26 (yes, I have owned
one). I have also owned a Skylark 4 (which I wish I
still had) and ...

physics question about pull ups by
John Rivers
I was trying to work out the expected height gain from a pull up
Experienced glider pilots say you will get a better pull up with a
heavier glider / water etc.
But I can't see this from my (probably incomplete) equations:
total energy = potential energy + kinetic energy
total energy before pull...

WORLD MEMBERSHIP REPORT - POLAND, AUSTRIA, BELGIUM by
John Roake
I am in the middle of preparing the world membership report for the March
IGC meeting.
All but three countries have furnished their returns, and repeated emails to
the IGC delegates for Poland, Belgium and Austria are ignoring my request
for membership figures for their countries.
Can anyone help...

EXCITING NEW POSSIBILITIES by
John Roake
The December New Zealand Gliding Kiwi issue heralds the Jet-age in gliding -
providing photos and story about the experiments going on with the new
generation miniscule jet units for self launching. Climb out rates are
better than 200 ft/min
A relatively simple retrofit for all glass ships is a...

Glider or GA radio by
John Roche-Kelly
Hi Guys
Those of you flying in the US may have read that as a result of new
legislation there is a change to the specs of radios fitted to gliders and
GA in the european area.
As a result I have a perfectly serviceable, if oldish, AVComm GL72a 720
channel radio for sale.
Check out...

DG300 Tail weight by
John Schaffer
I have a DG300 that has two tubes fiberglassed into the tail along the verticle stabilizer hinge line. These tubes are roughly 1" in diameter. According to the book it is for tailweight. The manual does not seem to explain how to use this feature or how to secure the weights. First impression is a...

Super Varios by
John Scott
I'm purchasing a glider and have started selecting the instruments. I'm
looking the Borgelt B50 and the Cambridge 302. I will be using an iPAQ
running flight software in conjunction with this instrument. If I select
the Borgelt, I'll also need a separate flight logger. I expect to fly...

Metric Aircraft Nuts and Bolts by
John Scott
I am building a european glider kit. I am in need of some additional metric

had little luck finding information on what would be the metric equivalent
of US AN series hardware. I have been unsuccessful in determining what...

Interesting new approach to collision avoidance assistance by
John Scott
Here is a device that assist with collision avoidance and does not require
any cooperation from the other aircraft:

After reading the FAQs, it does not appear it will be readily applicable to
gliders since in it's current form, it only is effective in level...

EW Model D Logger by
John Scott
Our club has an EW Model D logger. In the process of getting things ready
for flying this year, I got the loggers out, put in fresh batteries, and did
a test run in the car. I got a strange altitude plot from the EW model D.
It was very "notchy'' with the altitude not changing for several...
