Camp Scholler without a car? by Andrew Sarangan
How practical is it to stay at Camp Scholler (Oshkosh) without a car? I plan to fly into Appleton, and take a bus to OSH thus avoiding a rental car. Suggestions appreciated.

Went to Iowa City by Viperdoc
Went to Iowa City today from the Milwaukee area- it was CAVU all the way. The FBO staff was very friendly and accommodating, and they let us use the crew car to go to the Mexican restaurant down the street, past Jay's establishment. The food was excellent and inexpensive. Didn't have time to stop...

Need Advice - What to check when renting a plane? by [email protected]
Hi All, as new licensed pilot I am looking else where for plane rentals. As you know that the price is a great concern. For a C152 it can be from $59/hr (wet) to $90/hr (wet). big differences. My question is, when you first go to a FBO, what to check when seeing a plane that you never flew on. ...

Flatlander heading to Boulder, CO -- need sage advice by [email protected]
Hey all, I'm planning to head out in my 68 Cherokee 180 the first week of September with my 20 yr old son to visit my brother in Boulder, CO. I'm a flatlander (Atlanta, Georgia area) and though I have no plans to do any mountain flying and wouldn't without instruction, I'm flying towards the...

Avgas plummets! by Doug Vetter
Couldn't believe my eyes. I pulled up to the pumps today at my home base of Old Bridge, NJ (3N6) to find AVGAS at $3.15/gallon (cash), down from a high of $4.15 IIRC. I haven't seen it that low since well before the recent runup (probably two years). Never thought I'd see the day when I was...

Boeing to fly fuel-cell GA plane... by DeltaDeltaDelta
I read an interesting article in the papers a while ago concerning hydrogen fuel cells. It made the point that the fuel cell can actually be more polluting than an petrol engine since all the hydrogen ejected into the atmosphere could have an adverse effect on the oxygen in the air and possibly...

About the book entitled: Test Pilot, 1001 things you thought you knew about aviation by Koopas Ly
Good day all, I was at Borders the other day and read a few trivia questions out of the subject book's "piloting" chapter. The author is Barry Schiff. Have any of you have read it? Even though the questions were challenging and thought-provoking (they had to kick me out of the store when I...

Spy Plane Fries Air Traffic Control Computers, Shuts Down LAX by Larry Dighera
Hey, if you think this is pathetic, wait until NextGen ATC is deployed. A satellite based system, vulnerable to solar disruption, terrestrial jamming, and lacking any means of empirical determination of aircraft location is destined to cause more hazards to airline traffic than it is designed...

B-29 Throttles Question by Bob
Hello, Realize this isn't the correct forum for this, but I feel sure that someone here will know the answer. On the WW II B-29, or on a B-17, the Flight Engineer has a set of throttle controls. Also, I believe, the Pilot.

Two fine points of FAR interpretation by Dave Russell
A friend of mine is curious: 1. If a runway is closed by NOTAM at a non-towered airport, does that mean that the adjacent *taxiway* can't be used to legally take-off and land? (I know the insurance company would have an opinion about this, also, but let's ignore that aspect for the moment.) 2....
