Soaring in or around Maidenhead UK by
John Huthmaker
I am heading to England this afternoon for work. I'll be staying in Maidenhead for about a week. If I have any free time, it would be awesome to get in the air. Can anyone recommend a place I could get some glider time in that would be relatively nearby?

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb by
son_of_flubber
(Title intended to add a bit of levity to serious post.)
Soaring can kill you, but how do we put that risk into perspective?
A statistics based Mortality Calculator helped me do that. I answered a few questions about my medical profile and age and it told me that statistically I have a 19%...

Status US PowerFLARM shipments by

Pilots have been flying in Uvalde and feedback is positive, see
postings on R.A.S and other locations e.g. John Cochrane:

Nevertheless there are some issues which require our attention:

CAI 302 date problem by
Bernie[_4_]
I flew yesterday (26 October) and had two hours, later I used the
Cambridge utility on my PDA to download the flight log from the
Cambridge 302.
First thing I noticed was that the utility said the flight was 111
hours long, and that the date of the flight was 21 October.
I later checked the log...

Daylight Losing Time: GPS Synchronizing VL? by
309
Well, it's time to set clocks back...and I noticed something
interesting today.
My VolksLogger's clock seems to run 15 seconds ahead of other GPS
units...and the US Atomic clock (which appears to be synchronized with
GPS time -- or vice verse -- per the readout from a Garmin GPS90).
I say the VL...

ASH-26E evaluation by
Gabriel Duford
Hi,
I am considering an upgrade for my ASW-20 and would like to know more about the ASH-26E. I am interested in every aspect of the glider (comfort, maintenance, ease of operation, etc) and mainly about performance as a glider.
I have some time on the ASW-27. From my research, it seems that the...

New Panel Help by
[email protected]
Hello All,
I am returning to the sport after a 30 year hiatus. I have recently purchased an SHK1, which I am refinishing/restoring. My goal is to use this ship to earn FAI badges, not to fly competitively. Given this information, and a limited budget, I am looking for opinions regarding...

Transponderz by
K
List,
Am in the process of redoing the panel during the off season and currently shopping for a transponder. It would seem the best thing to do is purchase a unit with ADS-B functionality. This narrows the selection a bit. Are there any units to avoid? Should I wait and see what comes available...

thermal detector? by
Robin
I've imagined that birds detect thermals in part with superior vision.
They can see the little bits of stuff in the air that show motion. Now
it looks like America's Cup sailors will be lighting up the little
bits with lasers.

Readers of this group might like a very nice article on turn radius and

Though mostly about handicapping, it also shows very nicely why you
should not thermal at the "minimium sink speed" corresponding to the

Laister LP-49 TE and polar info by
Jim Meade
I have a Laister LP-49 and am looking for a polar graph for it. I
would also like to talk to anyone who has added a total energy probe
to the vario on this glider. It has metal flight surfaces and a
plastic body with solid bulkheads. Might be a trick to plumb the line
from the vertical stab.
