Neat video: lennies and aurora by
Martin Gregorie[_5_]
This is worth a look. Most of it is nice aurora shots, but at around 1:45
there are wave bars with lennies in front of a nice bright aurora.

Report on DeLorme PN-60w SPOT by
Jet Pilot
The latest satellite tracking device is the DeLorme PN-60w which can
do text messages along with position data via SPOT. It does this but
it is not user friendly. The text entry process is not easy (although
you can put in 14 preselected messages and send the one that is
appropriate like "Task...

news server for uk.rec.aviation.soaring by
Peter Scholz[_2_]
Does anybody know a news server (NNTP) that is hosting the
uk.rec.aviation.soaring newsgroup? I so far only found servers that host
the uk.rec.aviation group, but none for the soaring sub-newsgroup. I
know I can get to the newsgroup content through
http://uras.gliderpilto.net, but I would...

Happy Thanksgiving from Down Under by
Dave Nadler
Happy Thanksgiving all in USA !
From Oz, where the days are long and warm,
the Jacaranda trees are in full bloom, there
are sunbathers in the parks, and the skies are
kinda like Uvalde.
Today I got my ASH-25 familiarization and
local checkout. A friend here has lent me an
ASH-25 equipped with...

Thermal Forcasting -Thermal index by
gldrgidr
Years ago there used to be a website that would provide a thermal
index for the day, by typing in info for an individual's area. I can
no longer find it.
I've recently been reading my old soaring magazines from the '80's and
saw an article by Senn on the SOAR thermal forcast program.
Are either...

I have just updated my videos web page with more detailed information about
the extra features that will be included on the new Sailplane Grand Prix in

I like that they added several new additional features that were created
just for us glider pilots.
You...

I am trying to help a friend find a glider that he can fit into. He is
looking for a club class glider or slighty higher cost. What gliders

Stopping a Tail Tank Drip by
jcarlyle
Need some advice for stopping a drip (once per 20 seconds) from a tail
tank. I’m aware of using Vaseline / Chapstick / beeswax on under wing
dump valves, but what about on a tail tank? How would you even reach
it to goop it up (the seat is way up a 8 mm tube)?
The tank in question is a 5.5 liter...

Flight recorder that records attitude by
Andrew[_10_]
Hello,
I created a flight data recorder during my dissertation - and am
considering the feasibility of turning this into a usable product. The
unique feature of my device is that in addition to the usual
parameters - it also records attitude information (roll, pitch, yaw)
and does so in an...

Condor+SYM/HP310? by

Anyone out there get this to work properly? I've got my 310 and
computer on the same COM/baud... even got them to connect (COM
connection, not headset). Sorta got it to work with my 3.12
installation (accepted the NMEA stream from Condor and thought it was
in Slovenia...), but corrupted it in the...

Oudie or Garmin or both for a airplane & glider pilot? by

Hello all,
I'm a power pilot transitioning to soaring. Before I starting flying
gliders this summer I was on the verge of purchasing a Garmin 500 GPS
for navigation in rental airplanes. Now that I'm starting to gain a
little more experience in soaring, I've noticed that many of the...

How do I legallly install winglets on a standard airworthiness certificate? by
Scott Alexander[_2_]
A friend in my club built a pair of winglets for his Standard Cirrus.
His glider is expirmental, mine is not. The total cost for him was
just a hundred dollars for supplies, and some free guidance from a
local IA/AP. The finished product looks fantastic! The mold came
from an American Spirit,...
