HP310 and hx4705 - side by side, first impression by
Tuno
Today I finally got to do a proper side-by-side comparison of an HP310
PNA and hx4705 PDA, each running SeeYou Mobile, under a bright sun and
in the glider cockpit.
In terms of screen performance under the Arizona sun, I could hardly
tell the difference between the two. If the HP310 was easier to...

Extension cord gauge question by
Tuno
Yes, I know I'm a little OT here, but I am packing for Parowan :)
I recall someone once telling me that extension cords larger than 14
gauge (maybe he said 16) are a waste of money because the plugs at
each end are not rated for anything higher than what a 16 gauge wire
can provide.
Is this true...

(USA) New Mexico restricted airspace question by
Tuno
I recently learned that the restricted airspace in the SE corner of
Arizona (R-2303) is not in effect during the weekends. Does anyone
happen to know if any of the restricted areas over central New Mexico
(R-5107 -- over the White Sands Missile Range) have a similar policy?

The Left vs the Right by
Tuno
I forwarded that hilarious youtube Hitler-as-CD video to my brother,
who several questions later asked me why we have to turn to the left
in the start cylinder but have to turn right when releasing from tow.
I did not have an answer to that question. But I sure hope that I wake
up one day and find...

(USA) SFR area around Washington D.C. by
Tuno
The special flight restrictions and procedures around Washington D.C.
put into place after 9/11/2001 were made permanent last month
(February 17, 2009). However the defined area(s) have not yet appeared
in the FAA's National Flight Database.
If anyone has reliable OpenAir or TNP descriptions of...

Batteries for Schleicher fin compartment by
Tuno
It looks like the Power-Sonic PS-1229 is the correct size but I'd like
to know what others might be tried and tested.
Looking to start using one to power an EW Micro and/or future
transponder.

(USA) FS: Cambrideg 302 by
Tuno
Less than two years old, serial number 4HA, software version 2.63,
calibration date 1/24/2008, offered at $2000. I've been using this as
a backup logger but I'd like to switch to a lower cost flight recorder
that uses its own power supply.
Also available for an additional $200 are an iPAQ hx4705...

(USA) WTB: backup logger by
Tuno
I'm looking for a blind backup logger, IGC approved, that uses its own
power source (EW or similar). If you have a gently used one you're
willing to part with at a reasonable price please contact me via e-
mail.
(If I find one I'll have a one year old 302 FS.)

Legal eagles - what's your take on this airspace issue? by
Tuno
I'm rather surprised my original post on this topic didn't generate
any discussion, so I'm going to try again with what I learned since my
last. (Thank you CH!)
The first two press reports on the incident, where a powered
pagaglider pilot was arrested by Hualapai tribal police even though he
never...

Need base station antenna for RV by
Tuno
I had an AV-5 that worked well but fell victim to the trees
overhanging our neighborhood streets. I'm wondering if anyone has
experience using a longer antenna without a ground plane on a
fiberglass RV.
Or perhaps there's an antenna similar to the AV-5, but with a flexible
base?

mSeeYou and HP310 (USA) by
Tuno
I've e-mailed Naviter for instructions on how to install/run mSeeYou
on the HP 310, but no response yet. If anyone has the secret decoder
ring and can e-mail it to me (or post it here) I would much appreciate
it. (Extracting the mSeeYou SD install to a "2577" folder on the SD
didn't do the...

Checklist for maintenance kit by
Tuno
I've seen some excellent lists on this forum for the pilot, glider,
and landout/emergency kit. I'm wondering if anyone has developed a
list for the tools, parts & materials to always have in the tow
vehicle. I need to assemble a single toolbox that I can transfer
between tow vehicles (I use a...

Drain holes under Schleicher seatpans by
Tuno
Now that I have my seatpan out (again) ...
My Ventus 2C had a drain/vent hole in the fuse directly under the
seatpan, about 6 or 7mm diameter. At first I wondered what it was for,
because nothing ever came out, so I kept it taped over.
After I got delivery of my new ASG29 in March, my first...

That Schleicher canopy thing again by
Tuno
Before a test flight yesterday I noticed I wasn't getting anything out
of the radio speaker in my not-yet-one-year-young ASG-29. Volume up,
squelch down, nothing.
Last spring I had problems with the flap position sensor not working
when the canopy was open. (I think it still has the problem -- I...

IGC log file tabulator by
Tuno
Mark, I've thought of something along those lines, but the file would
be a more general control file, containing things like the full path
location(s) of the IGC files, output options, local time, flight time
calculation rules, etc. I avoided this because I wanted to keep the
tool's interface as...

See Spots Run by

Okay, that's what I would like my crew to be able to do while I'm
trying to keep up with 21 in Parowan.
I understand that the SPOT Messenger service includes a KML feed from
a server that's updated every 15 minutes. (I think they're working on
a server with a higher caching frequency.) I would...
