NAVMAN GPS by
Mike Hostage
I am using it with an Ipaq 3955 and CE Glide. Since
they kindly modified the program to accept the NAVMAN's
unusual data rate, it has worked just fine. The 57600
baud rate has prevented me from using Glide Navigator
II. I have not tried WinPilot.

Navman PiN 570 - PDA/Navigation Portable Handheld Device by
Doug Haluza
Has anyone used the Navman PiN 570 - PDA/Navigation Portable Handheld
Device in a glider with PDA navigation software? These have now dropped
below $250 in the US and may be a better deal than a used iPAQ now. It
comes with a built in GPS, cradle and gooseneck. It runs WM2003 and has
a 266 MHz ARM...

Navman PiN Pocket PC for glider usage by
[email protected]
This is my initial evaluation of the Navman PiN for use in
a glider as an integrated flight computer system. The reason
for this evaluation is my desire to find a self contained flight
computer for the SparrowHawk I have on order. By self contained
I mean with an internal battery suitable for...

Navworx ADS-B Transceiver gets FCC Authorization by
Mike Schumann
It looks like the low cost ADS-B UAT logjam has been broken:

While the price is somewhat higher than I would like to see, it's
competitive with buying a transponder coupled with a Zaon PCAS XRX. ...

NC Wave Camp by
cfinn
We have had interest in a Wave Camp in the southeast this winter. The
tentative dates are February 20th through the 28th. We will base at
Shiflet Field (9A9) at Marion, NC. Marion is approximately 30 miles
east of Asheville, NC on I40. It's just southeast of Mt. Mitchell and
is close to the primary...

Neanderthat vs. Wuss Gate by
[email protected]
Let me tell you where I'm coming from on this gate issue. I was CD'ing
one of the Montague nationals and we were using the finish line. The
only practical location for the line was the edge of the X'ed-off
runway, but there were several competitors tied down there (read cars,
wives & kids) One of...

Near encounter with airliner detected on PowerFlarm by
Steve Koerner
This past Saturday my flight out of Estrella took me about 10 miles NW of Tuscon class C at 11,200 ft with my Trig transponder on and blinking replies to radar. I was northbound at 90 - 100 kts. I observed an ADS-B target on my PowerFlarm display and on ClearNav display coming directly on a...

Near mid-air by
Bob
In the Orange County Soaring Association newsletter Zero Sink First
Quarter 2010 there is a good article on a near mid-air. A couple of
things jumped out at me as I was reading the Article.
1. The towplane involved in the near mid-air did not have a radio!
2. The tow path apparently was in the...

Nearest Location by
[email protected]
I am 13 years old and I want to learn to fly a glider. The one problem is that the nearest gliding school near me is 1 hr and 40 minutes away and this is way too far. I was wondering if there was a way around this. I have looked for different places but they are all too far.
FYI I live in eastern...

Nearest near-miss? by
[email protected]
The Transponder chatter on other threads got me to thinking about who’s got the closest near-miss? Thought I’d kick it off with my incident over 40 years ago. I was flying my homebuilt wooden sailplane over Mono Lake, Ca. Cursing south at 16000’ and 60 knots when I spotted a 4 engine jet...

Nearly Mid-Air Collision at Estrella by
Terry Claussen
A lousy end to what was a beautiful day of soaring, thanks to the USMC
and my own lack of vigilance.
Yesterday a cold front was bearing down on Phoenix. While in other
parts of the country this makes for winter worries, here the front is
a small band of cumulus and a very slight chance of virga....

Neat video: lennies and aurora by

This is worth a look. Most of it is nice aurora shots, but at around 1:45
there are wave bars with lennies in front of a nice bright aurora.
