Drum dia and torque by Bob Johnson
Reducing the drum size has more effect on torque than I realized. My spreadsheet shows 953 lb-ft for 48", 242 lb-ft for 36" and only 85 lb-ft for 24". What do you think? Bob --

FLYING magazine safety article by Bob Korves
In the May 2005 issue of Flying magazine (yes, I am behind in my reading) there is an excellent article by Bruce Landsberg in the SafetyPilot column. It is titled "Death in the Afternoon." In the article Bruce talks about bullfighting, airshows, auto racing, Roman gladiators, and others as...

RESTRICTED CATEGORY TOWPLANES by Bob Korves
Judy, Help me to understand the FAA legalese here. We have Pawnees that are in Restricted Category and say 'Glider towing' on the Airworthiness Certificate. Does this change mean that we no longer need to consider going to Normal Category to placate the FAA? -Bob Korves "Judy Ruprecht"...

Five-foot-wide glider trailer? by Bob Kuykendall
Some while ago I saw an article on the Internet about building an oversize glider trailer. I seem to recall that it used a steel tube truss that was about 60" wide and about the same tall. However, today I tried all the search terms I could think of and couldn't find it. Does anybody here remember...

Twenty years! by Bob Kuykendall
I was poking around on the Web looking for information about wave soaring, and I happened to notice that in a few days it'll be the 20th anniversary of Bob Harris' 17 February 1986 wave flight to 49,009 feet absolute, with a height gain of some 39,900 feet. What I remember most about the flight...
