Compare ADS-B and XM weather by Eric Greenwell[_4_]
I'm interested in the utility of ADS-B and XM weather products for soaring (I know about the geographic availability). Has anyone used either enough to know? For example, XM weather has the visible satellite images, but I don't think ADS-B does. Is that a deal killer? -- Eric Greenwell -...

Midwest Straight Soaring Season Underway! by Steve Leonard[_2_]
While not with as big a spalsh or fanfare as a Hugh and Gordo trek, KSA's Tony Condon (now changing over to The Cirrus Kid?) is off on a free distance run today. Cold front came blasting through yesterday afternoon, and with warm ground and cold air, thermals were predicted to be good. This,...

Ugh. Flight trace didn't download off FLARM brick by Kurt Thams
After a sweet flight, I get home to discover that the flight trace did not copy onto the USB stick. Do I need to bring a computer with me to the airport to check each time before I leave the glider that the trace made it?

Soaring in Australia in March by GeneReinecke
Hello: Planning a trip to Australia in March, 2016. Got permission from she who's name shall not be uttered for 3-4 days of soaring during the trip. With Sydney or Melbourne as a gateway (Yarra River Valley anyone?) I am looking for info on flying dual and possibly supervised solo in a foreign...

Duo Discus Rides in 2017 ? by [email protected]
Is anyone interested in selling Duo Discus rides next year at various stops along the competition circuit as KS and others have done over the years - either for the benefit of the US Team, SSA Juniors, another cause, or perhaps themselves? One can never sell too many Duo Discus rides (preferably...

A Talking Airspeed Indicator by Soartech
Last year I was looking for such a device to allow me to montitor my speed more easily on approach so I didn't have to glance at the panel during this critical stage of flight. I found this affordable, small box that plumbs into your pitot line and runs on 12V. It is made in England. I only turn it...

Aileron "tuning" or "trimming" by [email protected]
Hi all, I have a PW-5 that requires side pressure on the stick at all times to correct a tendency to bank to the right. More pronounced at higher speeds, of course. Wing tape helps a little but doesn't eliminate it. But there is a visible tiny difference in aileron position from one side to the...

SZD-19 Zefir 2A in USA? by Steve Leonard[_2_]
Anybody know anything about what happened to the one Zefir 2A that came to the US? It was registration number N86674. Shows up in the NTSB Database as having crashed near Cedar City, Utah, on June 26, 1968. Sailplane Directory issue of April 1970 said that Jerry Austin of Pasadena, CA owned it,...

Integrating Flarm with Clearnav by [email protected]
I have so far been unable to get Flarm traffic to show up on my Clearnav display. I have experimented with different Clearnav zoom settings without success. Within the Clearnav Main Menu/Settings/Tools tab I find the Flarm tab. Opening this tab shows a list of Flarm information which seems to give...

SSA Website now has video section! by Dave Newill
I am sure this is old news to others - but tonight was the first time I had seen the VIDEO link on the website. Some really good ones here - but I know you all have favorites that need to be added. This is the sort of thing we need to promote to our you-tube generation...

TOST Tow Spring Pad for Cub by [email protected]
Hi All, In the process of trying to install a TOST towing system on a Super Cub. Original part received was a different design and no longer made by TOST, and there was no way we could make it fit, so it's having to be returned to the dealer. So now, we are thinking of putting the current...

Towing with 2008 volvo xc70 or what? by AK
In 2008 this model got a new softer suspension. I drove it and I thought it had more body roll than I would like to have. Comfort was great but handling I am not sure, especially for towing. So my question is does anyone has any experience with model year 2008? I also test drove the BMW X3 and I...
