Volkslogger downloads with high-speed serial port & OLC submission by
Bill Daniels
This is just a data point for those having problems with OLC files.
I last evening I downloaded a 4 hour flight logged at a 4 second intervals.
The secure .igc file downloaded in 12 seconds. The VL took 45 seconds to
'calculate the key' before starting the download. The high-speed serial
port...

Ventus 2 wing wheel by
[email protected]
The factory wing wheel for my V2C is having some lateral stability
issues. The cuff has the nice feature of allowing the flaperon to move,
but after moving the glider even short distances, the wheel cocks badly
to one side or another. Does anyone have any suggestions for modifying
this design so it...

Jantar Std Airfoil by
[email protected]
The Jantar STD use the NN-8 airfoil, is that correct? Does anyone knows
the coordinate data for this airfoil? I´m trying to put these data in
some CFD code to evaluate the best position for a turbulator.
I have data only on the NN7 Mk20 airfoil....They are the same or alike?
Thanks

Interesting new approach to collision avoidance assistance by
John Scott
Here is a device that assist with collision avoidance and does not require
any cooperation from the other aircraft:
http://www.fosterflight.com/
After reading the FAQs, it does not appear it will be readily applicable to
gliders since in it's current form, it only is effective in level...

registering a sailplane in UT by
Ron Gleason
I have purchased a DG303 ACRO here in UT. First thanks to all for the
feedback on this plane.
I am trying to ensure I cover all bases regarding registration with the
goverment agencies. Any input from UT, and other states, pilots would
be appreciated.
1) I have the Bill of Sales form, 8051,...

Anyone know what happened to Bob Wander's site? by
[email protected]
I had a look at it when I started gliding a few months ago but didn't
think all the fancy books would help me at that stage.
A few months have gone by and I tried to find his website again to buy
the Thermals book and a few other interesting ones, including one that
I believe was called 'Taming...

Dumping ballast in a gaggle, bad etiquette or poor sportsmanship? by
chris
I fly glider with an old wortman airfoil, it hates getting wet. Its'
sinkrate goes up considerably, and I've even felt the whole glider
rumble when flying in rain.
At a recent contest I was flying in very weak "survival" conditions
and was very happy to find a 1.3 knot thermal. I started...

OLC US Airfields by
Doug Haluza
One thing that's new in the OLC this year is tracking of flights by
takeoff location. This is a great feature that lets people see results
summarized by takeoff location. It's a useful tool for scouting soaring
sites, or just seeing how people fly in different places.
It is also a critical...

Thermal History Software? by
Gary Emerson
A year or two ago someone said they had seen some software that would
pick thermal locations from IGC files and would start to map out thermal
"hot spots". The more IGC files the better the data got.
Anyone know if this is real and if so where to get the software?
Thanks,
Gary

Podcasts? by
Bullwinkle
There was a flurry of posts in the couple of weeks prior to the Convention
about getting podcasts of sessions using cell phones.
Can I assume by the silence since then that this did not come to fruition?
Thanks,

USA Glider Experimental Airworthiness Certificate by

Well, now I've done it. I've changed the tail number of my glider, and
I'm in the process of getting a new experimental airworthiness
certificate. My glider currently is certified as: "Experimental:
Exhibition and Air Racing." The DAR (FAA Designated Airworthiness
Representative) says that I am...

Camping at Uvalde, TX? by
[email protected]
OK, I already know the answer to this one. But my twin daughters are
upset that I've reserved a hotel room at Uvalde for the U.S. Std. Nats
in August; they would rather stay in a tent (back off guys, they're
both crewing for me and, besides, I'm told this phase will pass as they
turn into teenagers...

How about a list of the "Top 100 X-CRoutes in the World" with dominant

Obviously, routes may be reversed, multiple flight types are possible

ASW20A and Cirrus by
Jeff Runciman
Hi guys,
After spending some time in Phoenix on a Grob 103,
I have started looking for my first glass glider. I
am currently looking at an ASW20A and a Standard Cirrus.
I know they are quite different. I guess my concerns
are the full flying tail on the Cirrus and the flaps
on the ASW. Any...

I finally made contact with someone in the Santa Barbara County Assessor's

I had gotten these two forms to fill out, she started checking the records.
She very quickly found my data file.

iPAQ 5550 problems by
Philip Eldridge
Hi,
I'm having problems with my iPAQ 5550 running Winpilot Pro, wherein the
screen freezes at various times in flight, requiring a soft reset to get it
working again. It's driven from a Colibri and Borgelt B50.
It occurs especially when a task has been set and the start button is
pressed, but it...
