Which Tow Vehicle by
Bob C
Which vehicle to tow a glider trailer has been debated
ad nauseum on RAS. I have always been a staunch supporter
of towing with a full-size truck. After the events
of last Thursday, I feel my position is vindicated.
I was towing my sailplane westbound on Interstate 40
near Gallup, NM. I had...

Best vario for airmass awareness across the speed range by
Jim Hogue
Any suggestions? Either currently available or coming in the near future (next year or so) would be ok, I am not in a rush. Prefer it would fit in one 57mm hole.
I take care of navigation and tasks with other standalone devices (full on OpenVario with its own vario/STF sensor board, and a Kobo...

Help calculating Speed To Fly for headwind and tailwind by
Tim Taylor
I am looking for the equations to determine the speed to fly for a
headwind or tailwind. I can calculate the the speed to fly for no
wind based on the polar from Equation V (Page 106, 1988 US Version) in
Reichmann. He gives a graphical method to determine the speeds for a
headwind or tailwind but...

Glider Fire Sale by
[email protected]
Question for u guys. Do you think we are going to see a massive glider fire sale after this china virus deal subsides? I wonder if this crisis and its associated lack of flying opportunities is going to convince many of the non-die-hard guys to leave the sport and divest themselves of many good...

ASW 27 Instrument Panel Texture by
[email protected]
I am making a new instrument panel for my ASW27. The original panel appears to have a textured overlay that looks similar to leather. As far as I can tell the panel was made from carbon fiber over a plug and then the texture was bonded to the panel most likely using a vacuum bagging method. It...

Windward's Sparrow Hawk and Duck Hawk out of production? by
J. Nieuwenhuize
Windward has revamped their website (http://windward-performance.com/) and all sailplanes have disappeared from their website. Anybody in the know as to whether they've ceased any production, or sold off the molds etc?

Airfoil comparisons...? by
Robert Ehrlich
Robert Bates wrote:
Does anyone know of a good, layman's reference to the differences between
airfoils? I've heard some "old-timers" refer to characteristics of
different ones, and was wondering if there was an "Airfoils for Dummies" out
there somewhere... ;)
Thanks!

Meeting to discuss FLARM in the USA by
Paul Remde
Hi,
FLARM has become extremely popular in several regions of the world (Europe,
and Australia, and ...?), but it has not been "allowed" in the USA so far.
However, there are several gliders flying with FLARM here in the USA. It is
a great technology solution and safety enhancer. But technical...

Pocket PC Tips & Glide Navigator II Tips by
Paul Remde
Hi,
I have created a couple of new help documents for Pocket PC users.
Pocket PC Tips
Pocket PCs are amazing devices. They offer a lot of processor power and a
user-friendly touchscreen user interface in a small package. A large market
keeps the prices relatively low. However, there are some...
