Motorgliders (long) by
JJ Sinclair
There are several questions concerning motorgliders on this years SSA / SRA
pilot poll. Some of the questions may have been spurred by my letter dated 7/11
03 which follows
Members of the rules committee,
A few years back, we allowed motorgliders to have their engines...

new SSA web site by
Moshe Braner
The "new web site" is live, and it is very slow to load, and I can't
find anything... Where did the state records go?
And when I tried to login it made me spend much time training Google's
AI via a "Captcha" - I hate those things with a white-hot passion!
And then it rejected my password. (I...

Paraglider pilot missing in eastern Nevada by
2G
He flew with two other paragliders last Saturday and hasn't been heard from since:
https://www.reviewjournal.com/local/local-nevada/infrared-tech-used-in-hunt-for-paraglider-pilot-missing-in-nevada-2104357/
This is very unforgiving country to be flying over. You can walk for an entire day and not...

USA - All students must show "papers" by
Tom Serkowski
http://www.aopa.org/whatsnew/regulatory/regtsa.html
Beginning October 20, 2004, all pilots wishing to recieve instruction
- including a BFR, must show proff of US citizenship to the
instructor. Very scary.
I have heard from a reliable source that if a CFI allows a passenger
to touch the...

Another midair in the pattern by
JJ Sinclair[_2_]
When I see the NTSB report 2 aircraft accidents at the same date, time
& place, it only means one thing. They came together in the air or on
the ground. On 12/20/10 in Madras Origon, a Taylorcraft and Cessna
came together while both were trying to land on runway16. The
Taylorcraft didn't have a...

ADSB visibility with non certified GPS by
[email protected]
The following quote comes from the Trig web page for their TN72 GPS.
"Wherever ADS-B technology is used it is worth highlighting that most ADS-B In traffic receivers will only display aircraft traffic that generate a non-zero quality indicator, (also referred to as SIL 1). In contrast a zero...

Tesla Model 3 and a glider by
bertvaneyken
Is there anyone using a Tesla Model 3 to tow his/her glider regularly?
Curious about the impact on range and usability to go on (European) gliding holiday.

Wanting to start a new glider club by
John Foster
Hi everyone
I just started glider flying lessons and I'M HOOKED!!! Unfortunately, the closest glider club is 3:45 hr drive away. I also live in an area that looks to me to be perfect for ridge soaring, with a range of mountains facing the west that runs for at least 85 miles, and possibly...

Wacky Tracky by
JS
June 2nd at about 130PM Pacific it appears that trackers stopped working.
InReach and SPOT both dropped out.
Tracking sites show yesterday's complete tracks today.
My APRS did not function properly yesterday, which may or may not be related.
Did not see evidence in flight of GPS jamming.
Received...

Wing Launch - Can it pull your wings off? by
ContestID67[_2_]
I was sent this link from a UK soaring friend of mine about a death
when the wings came off of a glider during a winch tow.

Sad story. A few things;
- My friend's thought was that the wing...

Landout Laws by
Charles Petersen
We had two landouts at Seminole yesterday, both in the same field, - a
pasture with cattle and a locked gate. One of the pilots visited a nearby
farmhouse, and spoke with the wife of the property owner asking permission
to enter and a key. She was very nice and called her son. He agreed to
call...
