PowerFlarm flight declaration by
Bob 7U
I have taken a brief look at the information concerning the PowerFlarm
and I still seem unable to find out how you make a flight declaration.
The 'brick' version will have a remote USB port that reads a memory
stick but will there be a way to enter a task using a PDA for example?
Will you be able...

Classic motorglider info please by
Bob Babcock
I am deciding on a homebuilt project. I am considering a project like
the classic Fournier motorgliders. I believe they are called touring
motorgliders. Thr RF4 style or my favorite looking plane, the
Schleicher ASK-14, is the type I'm refering to. Powered flight would
be my primary purpose to...

Mono wheel motorgliders by
Bob Babcock
Could I ask what operating the mono wheel motorgliders, such as the
Fournier RF-4, Ask-14, Europa, is like. I have not found much written
on ground handling and crosswind operation of these undercarriages.
I am interested in the systems with the small outriggers for self
launch operation.
It...

Jet sailplane demonstration at SSA convention by
Bob C
I'll have the jet sailplane on display at the 2006
SSA convention. Last year in Ontario, I fired up the
engines in the parking lot. The few who were there
seemed to get a kick out of it. I'd be willing to
fire them up in Dallas Wednesday morning before I put
the plane on display in the...

Which Tow Vehicle by
Bob C
Which vehicle to tow a glider trailer has been debated
ad nauseum on RAS. I have always been a staunch supporter
of towing with a full-size truck. After the events
of last Thursday, I feel my position is vindicated.
I was towing my sailplane westbound on Interstate 40
near Gallup, NM. I had...

Glider definition (span^2/weight) by
Bob C
A while back I read an FAA definition of a glider (as
opposed to an airplane). I think it was an FAA document
that referenced JAR 22. One of the criteria was a
span squared over weight number (S^2/W). I can't find
this document. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Airshow season is over by
Bob C
Well, the 2006 airshow season is over. I've burned
over 400 gallons of jet-A this summer and there is
no doubt that the twin-jet glider is the most fun aircraft
I've ever flown. Thanks to all the guys at AMT-USA
for their support, and a big thanks to all the airshow
volunteers and sponsors without...

Jet sailplane update by

_Jet Sailplane Makes Its Maiden Night Flight_
Just a quick update on the jet sailplane. It's 11:30
PM here. I just got home from taking the jet sailplane
on its maiden night flight. I could not have asked
for a nicer evening for test flying. Thanks to Bob
Hudson - who is probably in trouble...

Cessna towplane by
Bob C
Contact Cessna. There are factory approved drawings
for a Schweizer towhook installation. There is a charge
for the drawings, but once you own them, you can install
the towhook with nothing more than a logbbook entry.
Since it is factory approved additional equipment,
and not a modification, no...

Jet sailplane photos by

Photos from Wednesday's photo mission. I flew formation
with Clayton Stansell's Cessna 175 for about 35 minutes.
The twin AT-450's only required about 50% thrust to
keep the sailplane in the formation at 80 MPH indicated
(about 92 MPH true) at 7000' MSL. Photos by Bill Pearson
of High Altitude...

Panel volt meter by
Bob C
I just found a really nice panel volt meter. It is
7/8' X 1-3/4' X 1/8'. Weighs nothing. It needs a
single 7/32' hole for mounting. The wires run through
the single hollow mounting stud to the rear of the
panel. Really slick! 2 wires (+V & ground). Reads
4V to 25V. It's from Lascar...

Canopy causes cockpit fire by
Bob C
Yesterday afternoon Mark Mocho (MM Fabrication) opened
the canopy of his Pegasus to get his cell phone. By
the time he made a call to me, his soaring hat, which
was lying atop the glare shield, was smoking. The
canopy was acting like a big magnifying glass and focusing
the sun's rays onto a...
