Illegal Immigration, the Non-Issue of the Week?????????????? by
Expert Humor
The way our politicians rushed to talk about
illegal immigration this week, maybe they thought it
came with a free lunch. They won't do anything about it,
but it will get them some money. The Expert provides
the details at:

2006 Annual Inspection -- Complete by
Jay Honeck
Well, not too many surprises this year, other than the ELT. (Which I
suspected would not pass again, and it didn't.)
1. The Ameri-King ELT installation went smoothly. Running the wiring
up to the stupid annunciator panel in the dash (now required for all
ELTs) was a pain, but Ameri-King uses a...

O-540 engine STC (was oil cost) by
Jim Burns
Thanks BTIZ. "new pistons and rings" Do you know if the piston change
increased the compression ratio or changed the displacement? or was the
change simply necessary to handle the increased RPMs?
I believe that Lycon has been working on a STC for several years that would
increase the...

Average price per qt/case 15W50? by
Doug Vetter
Hi All,
I've burned through my last four cases of 15W50 and was about to reorder
from my local Shell distributor when I was shocked to find that the
price of a case of 12 qt bottles has risen to $68. I used to pay around
$47/case from these people, but that was several years ago (last time...

Keeping Carpet from Sliding? by
JB
The carpet sections in the front of my 1979 Warrior keep sliding
forward and get "bunched up" under the pedals. The carpet is in pretty
good shape but not stiff enough to hold itself in place. There is only
the metal airframe underneath.
How do people keep the carpet in place? I've thought of...

piper parts by
Dico
Hello,
I'm wondering where I could find a list of Piper (Twin Comanche) part
people. We may be doing a lot of renovations and I'm wondering if we
have to buy all the parts from Piper or are there aftermarket people
out there. We're looking for plastics, headliners, etc.
Any links would be...

T182RG cost of ownership, maintenance, operation? by
john szpara
(I posted this in rec.aviation.piloting, instead of this newsgroup, by
mistake)
I've decided that a T182RG (turbo, retract) would be a better choice
for me, economically than a T210. It was a tough decision, because I
love 210s, but right now it's the right choice.
I would appreciate any input...

2006 Annual -- My 8th "Owner-Assisted" Inspection by
Jay Honeck
So, our '74 Pathfinder (Cherokee 235) is back in for annual -- its fifth one
with us -- and I spent the day working with my mechanic on my 8th
"owner-assisted" annual inspection. A few previously known squawks have
been addressed:
1. The ELT. It barely passed last year, and this year it didn't...

Need help with Narco LORAN LRN 840 by
Benjamin Gawert
I got an old NARCO LRN-840 LORAN-C that I want to reanimate. Sadly I
only got the unit itself, no manuals or cables. What I need is a pinout
of the rear card-edge connector and informations about what voltage it
requires etc. If someone has a manual as pdf or any other electronic
format it would be...

Troubleshooting the Comanche fuel system by
Thomas
I was flying a friend to an airport some 200 miles away where he’d had
some work done on his Mooney. I have a 1966 PA-24-260 with two main tanks,
two aux tanks and two tip tanks. About 5-10 minutes after I had leveled
off at 5500 feet and switched to the left aux tank, the engine started
acting...

oil level effects oil pressure by
Robert M. Gary
I've noticed that if I run my engine lower on oil than usual (but still
well above the min) my pressure runs lower. I"m trying to understand
how oil level effects oil pressure. If there is enough oil to hit the
sump, wouldn't the pressure be uneffected?

2006 Annual -- My 8th Owner Assisted -- Update by
Jay Honeck
Things are moving along.
1. My new tail-to-fuselage fairing has arrived, and my A&P has allowed
as how we can use cherry pop rivets (rather than structural), which
will save a bunch of headache. (Although Mary will still have to get
back into the aft fuselage in order to vacuum up the rivets that...

Marvel carb on C-75--data needed by
[email protected]
I would like to replace my Stromberg with a Marvel carb on my C-75 so I
can have a mixture control that actually works and can maybe get away
from a needle valve that has an unstopable leak.
Have called Precision and Continental and neither can give me a
reference showing where this carb is...

Owner-assist friendly A&P/IA near JNX by
Javier
Greetings,
Jim has been excellent help for the last few years, watching me turning
wrenches in/on/around my Skylane.
But, I relocated to Raleigh, NC last year, and Jim refused to come
along. The nerve.
I'm looking for a local, owner-assist friendly A&P/IA in the area. My
hangar is at JNX, so...

Would this plane have flown? by
Robert M. Gary
http://www.thegaryhouse.com/aircraftdamage/
I was down in a remote area of Mexico this last weekend and a truck
backed into my aileron. I was lucky that the driver had a sat phone and
I was able to call an A&P to come down to Mexico and swap it for me.
However, all the local pilots, and the A&P...

It was the guage! by
Dave
After the problem stopped being intermittent, and the failure sayed
with is for a while, we got a chance to nail this down, with an extra
tank sending unit to test it with..
Surprising enough, when the guage failed, the resistance was still
about the same as when it was working normally. I...

Have you ever flown\owned a Mooney? by
[email protected]
Hi there
I am a '78 Grumman Tiger owner here who is toying with trading up to a
Mooney. Not sure which one, perhaps a 201 for starters or maybe a 231.
My question to the group is "have you ever flown or own a Mooney?" What
are your thoughts about its reputation for being a "cozy" fit and...
