Question re towplane airworthiness (USA) by
Greg Arnold[_3_]
I am posting the following for my local glider operation:
"Our Pawnee has two airworthiness certificates, one for normal flying
and one, restricted, for towing. When towing it is operated with
specific limitations spelled out on an operators handbook supplement.
Our tow pilot believes that our...

Softie by
Ross[_3_]
I have a Softie Mini that has just turned 20. My packer says he will not pack it again because the manufacturer says he can't. Nothing to do with the quality of the chute.
He was however nice enough to open the chute, and leave it that way.
Is there anyone out there that would like it?
Make a...

O2 and by
quietpilot
Bouncing off a comment from another thread.
a number of we "not in our 40s anymore" pilots are setting the O2 to kick in at 5000 msl.
O2 is cheap. Clarity of mind at altitude - priceless!
Being in the middle of my 40s myself. I recall spending time periodically in various smoke...

Tales of being distracted by scenery and/or euphoria while soaring by
son_of_flubber
Like many pilots, I try to be extremely cool and rational when I'm flying a glider and (such as it is)I enjoy my technical mastery of soaring, and I enjoy the companionable and endless discussion of technical detail on the ground.
But I fly in eastern-scale 'mountains', often below the ridge...

New Year's Day soaring? by
[email protected]
Back in the "Good Olde Days", we used to fly nearly every Jan 1st in southern Michigan, frequently with plenty of snow on the ground, and sometimes in the air. Does anybody still do this? It only counts if it's difficult! Floridians need not apply.

German friend ask for advice about soaring in the US this summer by

All,
One of the guys in my flying club is planning a trip to the US next summer after he finishes his Abitur (High School+ graduation exams).
He's asked me for a recommendation on where he could spend some time flying.. He has some flexibility in his schedule, and I'm not sure of his plans since...

Pilot Mindsets and Enhanced Safety by
BobW
(Apologies for the truncated earlier post...the 'draft' and 'send' buttons are
adjacent...)
Most U.S. glider pilots know of Tom Knauff, creator and long-time proprietor
of the well-known Ridge Soaring Gliderport in Pennsylvania. Probably fewer are
aware he has an intermittent electronic...

Bending Plexiglass by
Tony Condon[_2_]
I need to make a new section of the canopy on the Cherokee. Its a pretty
simple bend, not really a compound curve or anything. But I dont know
anything about how to do it. I suspect that I need to heat the plexi up
and then weight it to bend, repeat as necessary? Im sure that several of
us have...

Polishing a Blanik L-13? by
Papa3
The thread on aluminum trailer painting prompted this question. I've
seen a number of Blanik L-13s in the "original" factory finish of bare
aluminum with blue trim stripes. The aluminum is always dull and
mottled. Closer inspection suggests that the material is not the
typical 2024 surface...
