My EW is not talking to my SN-10 by
Jim Archer
The PDA is receiving GPS signal from the Goddard cable when it is NOT
plugged into the SN-10. When it is plugged into the SN-10 neither the
SN-10 nor the PDA receive GPS signal. The baud rates are set at 4800 on
the SN-10 (by default I understand), the EW, and the PDA (SeeYou mobile).

Kestrel 17 Polar by
Jim Archer
I am curious as to why the Kestrel polar is not included in any of the
flight recorders/flight computers. I have one loaded into my SN-10 from
the polar data in the manual so it's not a burning issue, but I'm
feeling a bit left out!

Valid OLC log out of SN-10b by
Jim Archer
I cannot get a valid OLC flight out of my SN-10b. I purchased the glider a
few months ago, have flown a few flights and all are invalid on OLC.
Prior to download the SN-10 security routine runs and approves the file.
OLC tells me the file error message on his end says Signature Missmatch
and he...

Magnetic attraction by

In such places it is obviously sensible to keep landing

There is a strange magnetic attraction at work ...

Why so expensive (flight recorders) by
Jim Beckman
A simple (EW Microrecorder) is under $800. In todays
money, an extra $20 for a badge flight is less than
the round of beers you buy. 40 badge flights and you
can buy a second one. Pretty soon, you hold a club
meeting to decide what to buy next once there are
enough
recorders.
Again...

Last fall I bought a Garmin Etrex for about $80, which
seems
to produce perfectly good flight traces. You could
actually
navigate with it, but we use our Garmin 196 for that,
but the

Cameras and barographs by

Todd Smith posted:
I was a new guy in soaring about 7 years ago and as
I was working on
my Silver badge, got a lesson in how to smoke a windup
barograph and
all that. I bought a used thermal electric model that
required no
screwing around, all I had to do was put it in the
glider. I then

Fear of flying cross country by
Jim Beckman
Some of this has been mentioned already, but let me
review the advantages of soaring cross country in a
1-26 (at least when you're getting started:
- The 1-26 is about the easiest glider available to
land in a small field
- The 1-26 is probably one of the safest gliders to
be in if something goes...

Cost of flight loggers by
Jim Beckman[_2_]
What a nonsense, Ian. In the ancient times, people
wanting to get a badge needed to buy a barograph and
a camera, and if I recall correctly, they weren't
cheap -
typically more expensive than a logger today.
So, what changed is the technology, not the price
tag.

Actually, the whole thread in question has very little
to do with the Polish airshow accident. It's a long
story, and you have to know the people involved, and
some of you do, but why...

(USA only) Managing 911 response to off field landings by
Jim Beckman[_2_]
A few years back I went on a retrieve for a glider competing in a 1-26
contest at Blairstown. The pilot set it down nicely in a field, contacted
the owner and he was cool about the whole thing. But somebody must have
dropped a dime, and a couple of young NJ State Police troopers showed up.

[USA] FAA approved canopy crack repairs by
Jim Britton
Our trusty Grob 103 is undergoing an 'extension of life" inspection
(AKA 6000 hour inspection)
One of the issues is with minor repairs to its front canopy.
We have one small crack starting from the right rail, less than 2
inches in length and well out of line of sight.
The plan was to do the usual...
