Not required, by worthwhile, training by
son_of_flubber
Last summer, I put my ear to the wind and I figured out that 'spin training' was worthwhile, but not required to obtain a private pilot glider rating.
What other training is worthwhile, but not required? What can I ask a qualified instructor to teach me after I obtain my glider rating?
For...

Seminole Lake Glider Port. by
[email protected]
I wonder if someone made a low ball offer for SLGP right now how quickly Mihai would grab it? This could go on for some time to come, no one really knows. I assume that he was "not on the property" during the Seniors as advertised. I guess the excuse will be that the flight restrictions...

Glider preparation for a competition by
[email protected]
I'm flying in my first gliding competition this year. I've flown a reasonable number of XC tasks over the last couple of years and thought it would be fun to enter a small local competition.
My glider is in pretty good condition and I'll be polishing it before the competition, but what other tips...

Towrope tensions....Part II by
Retting
Looking for towrope tensions information applied during a typical AERO tow. Singles and twins up to 600kg/ 1500#.
Perhaps testing was done back in the 60’s before Al Gore invented the internet. Prefer some numbers over methods of achieving.
The Uganda Information Award is still in play .......

LX S80 or ERA 80? by
Matt Herron Jr.
looking for a nice electronic vario/flight computer. I have used a V7 in the past and liked it. Anyone want to share an opinion about the LX Nav S80 vs the LX Navigation ERA 80?
I have flarm core, so I don't need the GPS. I also use an Oldie II, so the moving map features are less interesting...

looking for a set of ASW 19 ailerons by
Kerry Kirby
Our club has an ASW 19 and something has caused the ailerons distort to the point we have to replace them. In trying to trace salvage gliders I keep running into "privacy" issues. Anyone out there have any leads?
Thanks

Accident - Need a trainer ASAP by
[email protected]
This last week we had a freakish Winter Storm come through Utah while I was out of the country. Winds in excess of 70MPH hit the airport and my SGS-233A pulled it's tiedowns out of the ground and it ended up in a fence, totalled. I have been working with my young son preparing him to solo on his...

Be ready for the worst! by
Ed Byars
Be ready for the worst:
I totaled my ASW-28 last summer. The next day while I was "out of it" in the
hospital, the Feds (FAA-FISDO not the NTSB {because I didn't get killed I
guess}) inspected the damaged glider and removed all paperwork and my
smashed PDA. A few weeks later they returned all by...

First Visit to Minden questions by
akiley
Hi,
I'm a flat land glider pilot with 70 glider hours of which 35 are in a
standard Cirrus. I'm doing a week trip to Minden this winter as a
familiarization and glider checkout adventure. SoaringNV.
There is almost endless info available on the web, and I'll get help
from an instructor, but...

Air minded by
Alex Potter
When did people become "air minded", and why?
For me, it was in 1950, when I was about 4, when Dad took me to an RAF
"At Home", at Castle Bromwich Aerodrome and the sight of those beautiful
aircraft soaring and wheeling, high in the sky, and the sound of their
engines as the flew low and fast...

PowerFlarm rentals by
Lee[_11_]
Before everyone gets thier shorts in a knot, give peace a chance.
There WILL be a rental program for contest gliders. There are 4
months to get this up and active. Dale has elected to abdicate the
effort to MIRA but that does not mean that the rental effort is dead.
We are very busy with other...

USA - Private Pilot glider tow compensation by

I just came across this letter on another forum. I think we just

the FAA is not in the business of delineating between "logging time"
compensation and "money"...

Cobra Cosmetics II: How to Refinish? by
[email protected]
An amazing (to me) amount of interest in refreshing faded vinyl trim
strips indicates pilots are serious about making their rides
look good. But what about the trailer itself? My 14-year-old glass-top
Cobra has a few cracks, nicks, etc., that will require work this
winter. Matching the existing...

I'm going to watch my parachute get repacked this evening. The local Master
Rigger is teaching a rigging class and I'm invited to watch him repack my

Can I ask him any questions for r.a.s.?
