Remote power control by
Paul Tomblin
Last month in "GA News" there was a brief mention of a system that allowed
you to turn on a power plug by calling a pager or cell phone. I was
interested in it for controlling the Tanis heater on my plane, but a
friend at work was describing needing something similar for his cottage to
turn on the...

Anywhere Travel Companion: any pireps? by

http://www.anywheremap.com/detail.aspx?ID=220
Looks like a nifty device. Has anybody tried one, and how do they like
it?
I note the price list mentions a subscription to software and database
updates. How necessary is that? I never updated my Garmin 195 except
once at Oshkosh, and I haven't...

IO-540 mystery by
Paul Tomblin
Our club's PA32R-300 has an IO-540 with lots and lots of hours on it.
After 20+ years, at this year's annual the compression was down a few
pounds on a couple of the cylinders, and the mechanic said he really has
his doubts about it passing next year's annual. That might be
significant, or it...

Need checklist for PA32R-300 Lance by
Paul Tomblin
I left for work today without my checklist for our Lance, and I have a BFR
after work. Can somebody point me to a decent one or two page checklist
that I can download? The one on Dauntless-soft isn't rendering correctly
on my version of Word.

After an annual? by
Paul Tomblin
When you pick up your plane after an annual, is there any special things
you do? I'm picking up the club's Lance after its annual today, and
flying it back from Batavia NY to Rochester NY (about a 25 minute flight).
Do you do any special pre-flight or flight check? I was planning to climb
up over...

What sort of plane do I want? by
Paul Tomblin
Ok, when I'm dreaming, I want a deHavilland Beaver on amphib floats
with all the Kenmore mods. But lets be practical here, I haven't won the
lottery.
Is there a plane out there that:
- is on floats (preferably amphibs, but I know they add a lot to the cost)
- can carry two people plus camping...

SkyRanger Valuation by
[email protected]
It seems neither of the services I've used in the past for valuation -
aeropricer and VRef - can handle a LSA/UL light the SkyRanger.
Any ideas on to whom/where I can go for a valuation? Or, if not on
the whole AC, on the Rotax 912?
TIA.

Rotax 912UL TBO in years? by
[email protected]
I'm aware that the 912UL has a TBO of 1500 hours (up from 1200 not
long ago).
What I'm wondering about is if there's also a time-based TBO. For
example, I know the Lyc 235 has, in addition to its 2400 hours TBO, a
10 year TBO; in other words, an engine 10 years SMO is to be
considered *run-out*...

C182 is almost perfect for what Iwant to do with the plane.

I also want to be able to comfortably return home after dark.
Thus I was thinking about a light twin, something...

Question.
Does having a private pilot single enging land qualify to get you a sport pilot
ticket? Seems like it should but I have never read so. What do we have to do
to get that ticket. As I get older and think of giving up the Archer, (and
before losing my medical for some reason) the Sport...

Garmin says they don't act that way.

Flying into Chass B by

Do I feel DUMB!
Flying west at 4500 ft I was "fat, dumb and happy" when I noticed I was in a
4000/10000 ft Class B vail. DIVE to get to 2500. I was not on the radio and
chose not to call approach.
I've filed the NASA form. By the way, what does that get me?
Now, I guess, I just wait to see if...

The curious want to know.

Flying under Class B by

What is the minimum legal distance (altitude) to fly VFR under a Class B
"wedding cake"? CLE has a 1900 ft floor at the north side by Lake Erie and I
have flown at 1800 to go around CLE. I was not talking to CLE so I don't know
if they objected. Today I was coming around CLE decending IFR. When...
