May the Schwartz be with you by
Papa3[_2_]
Ron Schwartz has been pounding the Appalachian Ridge system since shortly after dawn this morning in his trusty 1-26. As of now (about 14:00 local) he's got about 600K under his belt and looks to be across the Potomac for the tricky Sleepy Creek Mountain transition. Assuming this works out, he...

Flight Computer Input Devices by
Mike the Strike
I'm about to upgrade my Discus 2 panel with a more modern flight computer (5.6" class 640x480 display) and in reviewing the various options I am interested in user opinions about input devices.
My panel is just out of easy reach, so I'll need some input device - either stick-mount or cord-mount....

one more for low tow by
John Firth[_4_]
On aerotow in Oz in a Libelle std ( with ballast) behind
a Pawnee, the airspeed decayed to a value uncomfortably
close to stall; full back stick failed to hold the
the low tow position and I sank low enough ( with my hand on the (release)
that the rope contributed enough nose up to stabilise
the...

Sport Pilot Glider Rating? by
Walt Connelly
Interesting question from a Sport Pilot today. Can a Sport Pilot do a glider add on? Would it be a Sport Glider Pilot license? I haven't heard of such an animal, any one know the answer? Thanks.

Flight navigation/moving map software for Android System by
Stephen Michalik
The new Samsung Galaxy Tablet uses the Android System. Do any of the
current flight software systems run on Android? If so which ones? How
well do they interface with the SN10 or 302 ? How about the XCSoar
program in beta?
In measuring the Galaxy Tablet it is really only about 1.5 inches
taller...

Forum Deficiencies in rec.aviation.soaring by
Gary Osoba[_3_]
This forum is great for general discussion, opinions on nearly
everything germane to it's topic and otherwise (unfortunately), and
various other uses.
However, it does not allow for any presentation of attachments,
graphics, or other useful information. I am likely in a small
minority, but when I...

New Parowan Entry List? by
JJ Sinclair
Just checked it at http://parowan.soaringweb.net/Entry.html and I have
made a BIG move, all the way from 50th to 27th ? What happened? It looks as
though Karl has redesignated it as Region 2 West and let in himself and a whole
lot of easterners in. Right on Karl, I like a man who isn't afraid...

US Competition Rules by
[email protected]
Hello Racers:
The rules for the 2010 racing season have been posted at SSA.org/
sailplane racing/rules&process.
New this year is that the appendix to the rules now contains diagrams
illustrating key concepts related to starts, finishes, safety
finishes, tasks and turnpoints. Careful review of these...

Ka-6 Rigging by
vontresc
Well I finally got out in my (new to me anyways) Ka-6 the other day,
and I was wondering if anyone out there has some tips to make
assembling it any easier. Ideally I'd like to get to a system where I
wouldn't have to bother fellow club members too much for help. I
figure as long as I keep the beer...

The Soft Release? by
Gary Boggs
I'm not sure about the rest of the world, but here in the USA it's pretty
wide spread to release the tension on the tow rope before pulling the
release handle by getting a little high, and then doing a shallow dive. If
I remember right, this came about because the tow hooks on the Schweizers
were...

Gliding Experience Helps by
Karl Striedieck
To all of my flying friends,
Glider Training is what seamlessly enabled me to switch gears and take this
event in stride on this one. A guardian angel might have helped as well.
I was talking to Detroit Metro tower, circling over a densely populated site
8 miles east of Detroit Metro (DTW)...

12v - 12v charger by
5Z
I currently charge the (hard to remove) batteries in my ASH-26E with a
solar panel and charger installed on/in my trailer. During a contest,
the plane may not spend much time in the trailer during daylight hours,
but it does spend most nights in there.
The solution would be to use the solar panel...

Cambridge Model 20 Issues by
B. Iten
I am (I think) a proud owner of a model 20 which is driving me up the
wall. Yesterday, I was flying our clubs Discus B with my logger
attached under the glare shield. On my flight, after I was off of tow,
the recorder recorded what looked and was shown as engine noise. The
engine noise also showed...
