Long wing twisting by
JJ Sinclair
I survived an unexpected twisting of my ASH-25 wing a few years back.
The situation was as follows; speed 145 knots, altitude 50 feet (finish
line). After receiving my "Good Finish JJ", I initiated a climbing left
turn to exchange speed for altitude, about 30 degrees nose up and
banked 45 degrees...

Thanks Tim by
JJ Sinclair
Circumstances have forced me to sell 3 ships this year. All were sold
by advertising on Wings & Wheels used sailplane pages. The LS-3A went
to a new pilot in Washington state, the Puchacz went to a club in
Brazil and the ASH-26E is going to Australia which shows the
international following of the...

Just pull the little red handle! by
JJ Sinclair
I lost my best friend in a mid-air last November, a Cirrus hit a tow
plane in Colorado, we had a mid-air at Parowan and now the mid-air in
Uvalde!
I'm going ballistic as in Ballistic recovery system (BRS). At my age
there's no way I'm getting out of my ship unless it's straight and
level and...

Mandatory Radios by
JJ Sinclair
The majority of clubs and FBO's in Region 11 have gone to a mandatory
radio policy after the recent midair where the tow plane and glider
collided turning final. The tow plane was not radio equipped and
therefore didn't know (hear) that the glider was turning final from
the other direction. That...

Product review of SN-10 USB adapter and Garmin 16X GPS by
JJ Sinclair
I have been waiting for the SN-10 USB "stick" to come out and it came
just in time for Santa to stuff it in old JJ's sock. Installation was
straight forward, but when I tried to enter the latest software (2.34)
using the stick, it wouldn't take it. Paul Remde answered my e-mail
right away and...

Assembly Problems by
JJ Sinclair
I have always had problems in getting the first main wing pin started.
Recently I did some checking and found that not all main wing pins are
created equal. Some come with generous tapered ends and others come
with a very sharp slope or no taper at all. My Genesis 2, for example
has a 4:1 taper...

Field report by
JJ Sinclair
Dr. Jack,
Welcome to retirement and RAS, I hope you have a thick skin as you will need it
here.
A great big thanks for the BLIP-MAP, I use it every time I fly and find it
very accurate.
All the best,
JJ Sinclair

Turning radii and spanwise airspeed distribution by
JJ Sinclair
Good observation, Bill. Most long wingers have found it best to keep the nose
pointed towards the outside of the turn. It helps the climb. Your yaw string
should be telling you to, "Put your foot in the inside hole". Just don't do it.
Does that make sense?

PW-5 in the trees by

I heard a PW-5 crashed on Gun-Sight ridge (Montague, Ca) on Saturday and the
piolt walked away. Any more info on this accident?
Got more poop. Pilot stalled and spun into trees, slid down branches and landed
upright between tree and stump. I'm told the pilot was in better shape than
those who...

Navigational Question of the day. by
JJ Sinclair
Brion got most of the correct answers to the last NQD, so now a new one:
While heading for my selected turn point, I center the turn arrows on my
Cambridge GPS and notice that my bearing and track are the same, but my
sailplane is pointed a good 15 degrees left of the turn point. Why?
