Nice wave flights in Utah on Saturday by Tim Taylor
There were several long wave flights in Utah on Saturday. Dan Wrobel posted a flight of more than 700K in a Ventus B 16.6 to OLC and York Zentner flew over 1000K in LM (ASG-29) but appears to have had a logger failure. His spot trace will be around for a few...

Flarm data on iglide by [email protected]
Is there a configuration file that I need to make the contest numbers show up with the flarm data in iGlide? I see the traffic, altitude, etc, but I’m getting the ICAO designator instead of the contest number. I believe you have to configure the displays separately from the core, but does...

skysight monthly subscription by Dave Springford
Can anyone answer this question? When buying a monthly skysight subscription, does it cover 30 days from the date of purchase or does it go to the end of the current month? i.e. if I buy it today, is it good until 31 July or 10 August?

club computer by kinsell
Curt, Next time you're at the airport, could you power cycle the computer underneath the desk in the backroom upstairs? Should start up automatically when power restored. I'm generally available in July to help with wings or whatever. Tnx Dave

Soaring rides in Tahoe by [email protected]
My wife and I are visiting Tahoe this Fall and considering a sailplane ride.. I've found TTSA and Soaring NV, perhaps there are more that offer rides. Anyone know these and can comment on whether one is better than the other or if there's a better option? Thanks.

Powerflarm Butterfly rectangular display by [email protected]
Anyone have the above item in good working order that wants to sell it inexpensively? I have broken mine (I think by kicking it while getting in). I see that Craggy Aero has discontinued them for different styles and Cumulus wants too much to order one. I will try and repair the one I have but...

Carl Herolds 'The Elements of Glider Handicapping Pts 1-3" by [email protected]
Hi All I'm looking for any scans/pdf's of this series of articles which defined the handicapping of gliders particularly in the US. Apparently the articles were published in Free Flight , and before that in PASCO's West Wind in 1998 or thereabouts. Wondering if anyone out there has copies or...

Basic glider racing presentation? by [email protected]
I'm planning to give a couple of talks on 'glider racing' to local groups in Ohio this coming December. One group is at least nominally aviation minded, but the other is a local engineering club. I am planning for a 30-45 minute presentation followed by a Q/A session, and would like to know if...

Did the impossible in my glider last night!!! by Bruno
Wish there was room for what you were all thinking... ;) I pulled the water bags out of my ASW-20B to inspect them for the first time and I was just curious what they even looked like. To my horror I saw that the string on my second wing was broken. The end of the world! I decided to pull the...

Two recent incidents by Uncle Fuzzy
Sorry if this is boring, but the last discussion pretty much focused on the release / rudder waggle. I can't get to the NTSB report just now, but I seem to recall reading in the report on the OTHER incident (loose hand held radio blocking forward stick movement) that the pilot released, still...

good source for Jet Stream charts? [US] by chris
I have not found a really good source for current Jet Stream analysis and Forecast Charts. This is the best one I've seen so far: http://weather.unisys.com/ngm/init/ngm_300_init.html Anyone got a better source? In the past I've seen similar charts from NOAA or NWS That had a white background and...

Happy Birthday, Hod Taylor!!! by [email protected]
Hod Taylor celebrated his 89th birthday August 20 with a 2 1/2 hour flight over the beautiful Carson Valley and Lake Tahoe in a Duo Discus out of Minden. Many readers will remember Hod from his days at Black Forest Soaring, where he flew a triple lennie and entertained other pilots with his...

Hi Gang As of August 1, 08 a new set of rules, agreed to between the FAA and Pasco, has taken effect for the 2 wave window areas both north and south of Reno Intl. These new rules initiated by the FAA are due to the Hawker/ glider midair about 2 years ago and need to improve safety in the air. I...
