Epiphany #132 by
Jay Honeck
As we were flying along yesterday, en route to a good lunch in a nearby
town, it happened again.
There I was, sitting comfortably at 3500 feet, as rock solid as I am right
now, gazing down upon freshly harvested fields and newly barren trees. The
sun was warm on my face, but the air was cool. ...

Ercoupe by
Dan[_10_]
Perhaps someone will know...
Why hasn't the Ercoupe design been repackaged as a kit or LSA? It
seems to be the ideal design for the casual weekend flier (with or
without rudder pedals).
Side by side, sips fuel, low gross weight, proven design, etc.
I'm not interested in buying one (see "slow")...

for anyone who is actually interested in that, it was sidney Struhl who

Eric Beard by
tony roberts
Regret that Eric Beard of "Russian Thunder" died this weekend after
crashing a Piper twin in low viz. He crashed into trees 400ft short of
the runway.
He was a very talented airshow pilot and did a great aerial nighttime
fireworks display. He was a great ambassador for aviation and always
spent...

Error Puts 3 Planes on Same Path at LAX by
Larry Dighera
Are controllers given medical substance abuse tests after an incident
like this?
With an attitude like this:
"We're human beings and we do make mistakes," said Bob Marks, vice
president for the regional office of the National Air Traffic
Controllers Assn.
Is it time Air Traffic Controllers be...

Errors accessing FAA's Pilotweb by

Is anyone else getting SSL security errors when trying to access the FAA Web
site's Pilotweb pages? I tried to look up TFRs today and got an error message
saying the certificate issuer was unknown. One URL that does this is:

Essendon Airspace Procedures by
paulsims
Hi guys, can anyone tell me what is required to obtain a clearance from
Essendon Tower to do an orbit around the Melbourne CBD. I trained in
the bush for my recent PPL, but I fly mostly from Moorabbin. What do I
need to request and do I need to have submitted a flight plan.
Thanks

Ethanol Mandate for Iowa? by
Jay Honeck
Today Rep. Jim Nussle -- potentially the future governor of Iowa -- was
reported as proposing that all gasoline sold in Iowa be required to contain
20% ethanol additive. Presumably, this legislation, if passed, would make
the sale of regular unleaded gasoline illegal in Iowa.
See the story...

Etymology of Pilot by
Jim Fisher
I've been reading "The DaVinci Code" (damn good book) and there was a
paragraph about a biblical character named Pilot. That got me curious about
the etymology of the word "Pilot." I wondered if there were some relation
to the title we carry and the bible character. There isn't. But what I...

EUROCONTROL - General Aviation Survey 2007 by
CrossPoint
Dear Sir/Madam,
I would like to invite you to participate in the General Aviation
Survey 2007. There are many risks one can face as a pilot or passenger
in the busy European skies. One of those is mid-air collision. Many
factors may cause it. A major one is airspace infringement. The survey
is...
