I'm having to retire from gliders for health reasons. My Ventus C didn't survive my last flight completely intact, so I will be parting it out to recover some of the costs. The glider hull and avionics will be listed in a separate conversations. Available avionics include: Winter ASI P/N: 6FMS-4...

gliders in movies by [email protected]
Has anyone compiled a list of movies in which gliders appear? I tried googling, and it turned up some of the obvious names, such as _The Thomas Crown Affair_ and _The Boy Who Flew With Condors_, but nothing like a comprehensive listing. Johan Larson (whose interest in soaring was triggered by a...

Cambridge 302 and GPS-NAV owners – IMPORTANT NEWS by Paul Remde
Cambridge 302 and GPS-NAV owners – IMPORTANT NEWS Unfortunately, there has been a rash of Cambridge Model 10/20/25 and 302/302A with a fault in which the units lose track of the date and do not record a flight log, or record a flight log with an incorrect date. The problem is related to the...

sunlight readable iphone by [email protected]
Does anyone have any data on whether the iPhone X OLED screen will be more sunlight readable than previous iPhones? The brightness spec looks the same (625cd/m2), but I see no data on the screen reflectance.

How dangerous is soaring? by [email protected]
When I started soaring on mid 80's, everybody said that soaring is the safest aviation sport, almost safer than most 'real' sports. You can't brake your leg while flying :) Only when you hit the ground :D Though on a first year 4 pilots that I knew got killed with glider. Not a good start. And...

XCSoar or LK8000? by Dan Marotta
I've had a couple of flights using XCSoar on a Mio but the season essentially over and I don't have much of an opinion yet. I've since upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy Player running Android and connected via Bluetooth to the CAI-302 and have spent quite a few hours playing with the SIM mode and...

First Glider LS4 by Jeff Runciman
Thank you again for your advise. Any more thoughts on the LS4? Any concerns with the age? What should I pay for one? And are there any flying groups for the LS4? Thank you again and I hope I can contribute to the group as I go along. Jeff

are wooden gliders worthwhile building ? by Stealth Pilot[_2_]
serious question. in this day and age where the slippery glass reigns supreme are there any wooden gliders actually worth building ? if your son was on the way to a glider instructors rating, as mine is, is there a wooden glider design that would be worth building ? something with reasonable...

Blanik L-13 by Boise Pilot
Like about 300 US Blanik L-13 sailplane owners, I have a ship that will probably never fly again. Just trying to find out what other owners are doing with their hangar queens. I know of one where the owners took it apart, separating the aluminum from the steel for sale to metal recyclers. From...

Flapped Glider Recommendations... by noel.wade
Hi All, Assuming a budget of under $30k, I'm looking at upgrading my Russia AC-4. She's an excellent ship and I could do a whole lot more with her... But with our weak conditions locally, I find myself itching for a few more points of glide (currently about 31:1) and a lower min-sink (currently...

Test results LiFePO4 glider batteries after 6 years by SF
I started using K2 LiFeP04 batteries in my glider in 2010. I have had excellent results with these batteries. The electronics, especially the radio, enjoy staying above 12V, and I've never run out of power inflight with them.. This winter after taking some of the instruments out to have them...

Silver Badge Fun (?) by Mark Zivley
I think badges do serve a useful purpose to soaring, but I'm guessing that Al's comment is more geared toward the paperwork, documentation side of badges rather than the benefit that having a structured seat of goals established Badges keep many pilots focused on soaring where a lack of...
