We had an Air Force F-86 making landing approaches on the
Bon Homme Richard in 1959 off the Philippines.

Luckily he did not try to touch down on the carrier deck or
we would have been picking up the pieces of his F-86 with
its too-weak-for-carrier-landings struts!

Just looking at a copy of "Into the Sunset", a history of

Convair/GD
operations in San Diego. They have a story about one of

their test pilots,
an ex-Navy man, doing some kind of B-24 test off the coast

when he spots a
carrier. He lowers the flaps and gear and turns downwind

into the pattern.
According to the story, there was no one visible on the

flight deck when he
made a low pass- sounds like change your shorts time.
