Looks interesting, but very pricey. Several avionics suppliers are
advertising it, though. http://www.pacific-coast-avionics.co...il.asp?id=5914 -- Christopher J. Campbell World Famous Flight Instructor Port Orchard, WA If you go around beating the Bush, don't complain if you rile the animals. |

Does anyone know if it has the obstruction database (antennas, etc.) that
Garmin has heretofore refused to include in their GPSs? The Pacific Coast ad mentions "obstructions" in an oblique way. If it does, this would be a huge step in the right direction for Garmin. -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" |

I would go for the 196. I tested it some months ago in the air. I also had a
look at the 296. The fact that there's NO color in the 196, made it easier to handle. The screen of the 296 is to colourful for me. If you can operate a Garmin III, the 196 is no problem. Ed |

Garmin hasn't officially announced the 296 yet, and it's only appeared on some store web sites in the last few days. From the screen shots, I'd say the 296 has SIGNIFICANTLY raised the readability over that of the 295. -- Paul Tomblin http://xcski.com/blogs/pt/ "Oh my G'Quan, they killed Koshi!" - Citizen G'kyle, Babylon Park |

Now if only they can grow that dinky screen a bit. $1700 for *that* little thing? -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" |

If it does, this would be a huge step in the right direction for Garmin One review I read says that it has a complete TAWS database and will warn you of terrain and obstructions. This would make it one of the cheapest TAWS units around. |
