Hi,
Planning to put a GPSmap 196 for backup in my Cessna 172 I would like to know whether somebody has mounted a 196 on the 172 yoke? May I learn about the mounting used - original Garmin or OEM hardware like RAM? Any drawbacks or pros experienced with either gear? Otto Braasch (EDML) |

I tried both, the original GARMIN yoke mount and the RAM device. I
prefer the RAM solution, very stable. The Garmin original is not so adjustable and the screw-knob is at the bottom, so it conflicts with my knees, eg when flaring to land. In general, mounting the 196 on the 172 yoke is possible, personally i prefer the big RAM suction cup for mounting the gps unit just above and next to the glareshield. Just my two cents Frank |

Thanks Frank. My 196 and also the RAM mount have arrived today.
I will try and find out, what installation suits me best. Cheers - Otto |
