I just got a wing jack from Aircraft Jacks and I'm trying to figure out if
I'll be able to safely use just one jack to get just one main gear off the ground. The jack instructions assume you will use multiple jacks and a tail weight to simultaneously lift both wings in a level attitude. Is it safe to chock the nose and other main gear tire while just lifting one side to change a tire or service the strut? TIA. -- Best Regards, Mike http://photoshow.comcast.net/mikenoel |

TIA. not safe. the consequences of having the angled wing come off the jack will be a ruined spar. very very expensive. the wing has a conical jacking point that mates with a socket in the top of the jack's push bar. it doesnt have that much retaining ability. jacking from the spar requires you to lift the wing for the full extension of the oleo leg then the tyre compression ...which is a fair distance. the wing ends up canted at an angle that makes the safety problematic. if you just want to jack the wheel to change tyres a better bet is to jack under the end of the oleo. that way you just jack the tyre compression and the jack comes nowhere near the spar.
