Just a general question to the SeeYou team at Naviteer. Why don't you guys update SeeYou to run on proper hardware such as iOS and Android devices?
The current hardware which you recently "upgraded" your customers too has a very, very poor 1 hour battery life at best at full brightness. The only difference I see from the old hardware which is nearly a DECADE old is the new screen. Same old, old old processor. Same old, old, old operating system. Same tiny nearly USELESS battery. Same horrible resolution touch screen. I would not keep it in my junk box if it was not the only choice. It could be SO MUCH BETTER. XC soar is outstanding in that it allows its users to choose their own hardware. Same goes for SeeYou desktop. It is really in need of a Apple version and a major update in the user interface. Again, good a decade ago but by today's standards it is plain ancient. Any thoughts on a major refresh? This product has been essentially the same for nearly a decade now. Come on guys!!!! Please consider refreshing your products! You are worth it! Your customers are worth it. Sincerely, Sean |

Andrej has said on their forum that they are working on an Android version of SeeYou Mobile. Meanwhile, Oudie 2 (or GliderGuider/Avier/ VerticaV2) does an excellent job. The brightness of the screen is an overwhelmingly significant benefit, and the size is ideal for gliders. Ios devices are not as bright and are either too big or too small. Very few Android devices have screens which are as bright (Dell Streak 5 and the original Galaxy Note seem best but neither are current). I am not aware of the touch screens being low res - when the original Oudie came out it had a poor screen driver but I have not been disappointed by the touchscreen performance since then. The software works fine on the Windows CE devices. And you just have to accept that you need an external battery.
I would like to run SYM on a device with direct internet access so I will probably upgrade when Oudie 3 comes out - ideally for me an Android device with a bright 5" screen and WiFi as well as Bluetooth running SYM, and with an SD card slot for communication with other glider instruments. I expect there will soon be a number of other Android devices suitable for gliding including a new GliderGuider, so Naviter are probably hurrying to complete their Android version to avoid more users running away to XCSoar. |

I agree iOS is too small except for iPhone 5. iPad mini is also a good option. With so many users of Apple products in soaring, not supporting them is really strange.
I have just purchased an LG Optimus Android phone (Ebay, new in box, $275) which makes the galaxy note look dim in comparison. I have sold the streak do to its best version being Android 2.2. I think the LG is brighter than the Dell Streak and close to the Oudie 2 with FAR, FAR better touch resolution, screen resolution, battery life/tech, processor speed, GPS quality, etc, etc, etc. Hard to pay $625 for a 10 year old piece of hardware and software... Im excited to see the android version! Sean |

I agree iOS is too small except for iPhone 5. But the new iPhone 5s will be a 4.5 inch screen with an ultra bright retina display (release in late September). It would make sense for software players to start respecting that most of their customers use iPhones. Many of these customers would really appreciate the ability to utilize them as they do in aircraft navigation with apps such as foreflight (full sectional chart navigation overlay with weather...). iPad mini is also a good option and a panel could be built around this device. With so many users of Apple products in soaring, not supporting them is really strange.

Im excited to see the rumored Android version! That would be impressive. What I really want to see an updated desktop version (major refresh or complete rebuild). I would happily pay for it. I think most of us would as well...especially if it was for OS X! Sean F2 |
