A two inch ball equals 50.8 mm. I would think that would be close
enough for most applications. Two inch balls are a lot cheaper. Clay Thomas John Scott wrote: The following company is now selling 50mm Hitch Balls for $19.95 plus shipping. Clay Thomas That it would . . . but it's a little tough getting that new 50 mm receiver hitch to fit down on that ever-so-slightly too big 2" ball. Newer Cobra trailers can be ordered with 2" hitches for the US market. bumper |

My club has a factory L23 trailer and a 2 inch ball will not fit. The 50 mm ball (for which it was designed) works fine. I've heard of other cases as well. Tony V. |

They often won't go on, or if they do, they jam. Turning them down is also a real pain. And in the worst case, the jamming causes the ball to loosen during turns (US hitches used a bolted on ball, unlike the European hitches I've seen). -- Change "netto" to "net" to email me directly Eric Greenwell Washington State USA |

Well, I have to admit that I had been using 1 7/8 inch (47.6mm) balls with 50mm hitches for many years and thousands of miles, without a single problem. Oddly enough, I can across an auto parts store a few years back that was selling "2 inch" balls, which were clearly embossed "50mm", so I now have one that is the "right" size... Marc |

Ouch - that I haven't seen, but can easily believe. I hope it's not something learned from direct experience? Fortunately, no, but was related to me many years ago when I had Libelle trailer (Eberle?) with a 50 mm hitch, and was thinking of getting by with a 2" ball. Those older trailers were more likely to come with 50 mm couplers. They typically couldn't be changed, or at least with great difficulty, so getting the proper ball was the best solution. The newer trailers all seem to come properly equipped for the USA. -- Change "netto" to "net" to email me directly Eric Greenwell Washington State USA |

The Hitch Corner also sells Convert-A-Ball products and they offer a
50mm ball but don't advertise it. I have Convert-A-Ball 1 7/8", 50mm and 2" balls and 3/4" and 1" shanks so I am set to tow every trailer I have with easy convertibility. Convert-A-Ball products can be ordered directly at http://hitchballs.com Steve John Scott wrote: The following company is now selling 50mm Hitch Balls for $19.95 plus shipping.
