This is the last weekend for the IGC-OLC World League competition for
clubs that is part of the aerokurier On-Line Contest. Be sure to get in your flight claims by the 2359z deadline this Tuesday to help your club finish as high as possible. Currently, Warner Springs Gliders is the top club in the US, and Albuquerque Soaring is the top club in the world, but this could change after this weekend. The scoring difference is due to the maximum number of points given per
round. Below are the US and World League scoring rules. If your club misses a few rounds due to weather, you basically loose 50 points per round lost in the US and it is difficult to play catch up. In the World League you only loose 20 points per round missed so it is easier to catch up if you can score high on the remaining rounds. US Rounds 3(38),4(44),9(44),14(42),&19(34) had fewer than 50 points as indicated in( ). In the World League all rounds had the maximum 20 points. Rick Howell "FD" made the maximum point difference observation earlier in the soaring season when we were trying to figure out why Texas Soaring Association was doing so much better in the World League than the US League. Hope this helps. Bob Kibby "2BK" United States rules: 4. Formula-one scoring Each round the sum of the three fastest XC speeds on the OLC sprint task per club will be scored. The speeds will be index corrected according the gliders handicap. This sum is called the 'OLC-League-average-speed per round'. The clubs are ranked in a list according the achieved 'OLC-League-average-speed per round'. The club with the highest speed receives 2 OLC league points for each participating club in this round to a maximum of 50 points. The following clubs ranked 'n' receive 'n-1' points, but each participating club receives at least one point per round. World League rules: 4. Formula-one scoring Each round the sum of the three fastest XC speeds on the OLC sprint task per club will be scored. The speeds will be index corrected according the gliders handicap. This sum is called the IGC-OLC World -League-average-speed per round'. The clubs are ranked in a list according the achieved 'IGC-OLC World -.League-average-speed per round'. The club with the highest speed receives 2 IGC-OLC World - League points for each participating club in this round to a maximum of 20 points. With 5 of the top 5 finishers in the international league being US
teams, I suspect the rules are going to be in for a bit of tweaking. Bob Kibby wrote: The scoring difference is due to the maximum number of points given per round. Another factor that I was just made aware of from our SSA OLC rep is
that only the top 5 teams from each country are submitted to the World League for scoring in each round. This caused Texas Soaring Association to drop from 3rd place to 4th place in the World League in Round 19 since we scored 8th in the US and got "0" points on World League Round 19. We need to read the fine print. I agree that there may be further tweaking because of the US Sweep but I do like the International Competition aspect of this venue.
