Jeez, a common sense decision from our leaders in gummint! They are turning
responsibility for chasing folks out of the Washington, DC ADIZ over to the
Coast Guard. Nice, slow, orange helicopters instead of F-16s...and with VHF
radios!

When I enlisted back in 1946, the USCG was part of the Treasury Department
and they even skipped paydays at the end of the fiscal year...now, under
Homeland Security, they have money running out of their ears.

Actually, they've been using Customs department helicopters here for a
while now.

Hey, they probably can make more money selling themselves as defenders
of the Nation's Capital than they can trying to repell the enemy hoards
from the shorelines.

I'm just glad to see them getting more money. One fine June I went out to a
lightship (we're talking 1940s here) to fix their radiobeacon; fiscal year
ended June 30. I had to sit on that rolling monster until July 1, when the
boat that took me out there could once again fuel up to come get me.

War on Drugs over?

Yeah, and they don't need helicopters to fight the war on education.
