I've heard some discussion that there is a national number to call for
a void time on filed IFR flight plans. True? And if so, what's the number? |

I saw (I think it was here) that there is a nationwide clearance delivery number, 1-888-766-8267. Have not tried it yet... Cheers, John Clonts Temple, Texas N7NZ |

Current issue of AOPA mag has a good writeup and a tear-out reference card for FSS services. It includes the Clearance number. I guess you can get clearances but not a void time clearance which presumably requires local ATC contact. FSS should be able to contact ATC. Was this lost in the transition to LockMart? Matt |

![]() "Bill Zaleski" wrote I use this number all the time, and get void times regularily. Hi Bill, I can't get my clearance by radio at my home airport. I've been taking off VFR and remaining VMC until I can get enough altitude to get my IFR clearance on the radio. However, sooner or later, the weather will be too bad for that. So I'll start practicing for getting a void time from the 800 number. How long is the void time that you usually get? I'm trying to decide if I have to be at the end of the runway, ready to go, or can I call and get the void time, then start the engine, taxi out, etc.? Thanks, Dennis |

Thanks, Dennis When I get a void time clearance at an uncontrolled field, I tell the briefer that I need say 10 minutes to get ready for takeoff and then they give you a clearance that has both a valid time and a void time. It won't be valid until say 10 minutes in the future and then void 10 minutes after that. Matt |

I used it about a month ago to depart Cynthiana, Kentucky into IFR.
Worked fine. They actually gave me a longer void time than I requested. Lexington approach was all ready for me. I haven't obtained my clearance this way since LockMart took over, in fact I haven't even obtained a briefing since LockMart took over. DUATS is just too easy to use compared to calling a briefer who may be 3 states away. However, this technique worked fine with the old FSS. Matt |
