Unfortunately, the fanatics are getting all the press and the air time, and the moderates are largely ignored. They generally feel the fanatics have hijacked their religion. True. But it is the growing number of fanatics that has to be addressed. Yes, of course. But the moderates also need to get more exposure. If nothing else than to show cretins like McNorton that Al Qaeda is not the voice of Islam. Also, giving the moderates more exposure would let the Muslims themselves find a more civilised voice they can identify themselves with. That will hopefully prove to be one of the long-term benefits of awarding Shirin Ebadi the Nobel Peace Prize. There are other voices as well, true. hamas, hezbolah... The problem with islam is 99% make the other 1% look bad. You just show your ignorance with statements like that. Radicals are almost always a relatively small group with a very loud voice/actions. Islam has their share of them, maybe even a larger share, but still a relative minority of them. A Muslim who was educated on the subject was being interviewed on CNN the other day. He thought Muslim extremists made up almost 50% of all Muslims. While xtian extremists and fanatics make up about 90% of the republican party. And they are just as much of a threat to America as the Muslim extremists. Hold on to that fantasy.... It's all you have apparently. -- When dealing with propaganda terminology one sometimes always speaks in variable absolutes. This is not to be mistaken for an unbiased slant. |
