I need to remove my KLN 35A but I can't figure out how - small hole in the
front - I assumed it was for an allen wrench - none of mine fit it - too small for a tiny screwdriver - what's the secret to getting this thing out ? The battery in the unit is going dead and needs to be replaced - figured I could do this myself if I could remove the unit. Also going to have to update the database now that the battery died - and I don't have a laptop to do an upgrade (couldn't get to the back of it anyway if I did have one) - and I can't even seem to find a place to get an update - the phone # in the manual is no longer good. Any help here ? Thanks, Steve |

Bendix-King units do use an allen head. It's fairly tiny, and the screw is pretty far back. The driver my avionics tech uses is about 9" long. The KLN 35A has something that is in that hole only about 1.5 to 2" in
there, my small allen wrenches stop at that point - am wondering if maybe this takes a metric allen wrench - I just can't see in this tiny hole to see what is in there. At least on my 94 there's an allen wrench required screw right in the
middle hole on the bottom of the unit. It's got one of those screw-tab things - turn it one way a little tab comes down and locks the unit in place, turn it the other and it retracts and will let the unit slide out. I think you turn it to the right to get it to retract, but it's been a while. Keep turning and the tab will slide back along the length of a screw which runs the length of the unit. My tech had a bear of a time getting it just right. Came out easy though, getting in was the fun...
