If one is getting a new / used glider and wants to check out the Static / Pitot / TE systems on the ground, what is a recommended procedure? TIA - Lou |

I found this article from Borgelt Instruments useful.
http://www.borgeltinstruments.com/Leaks.html For me, I had a leak in a tiny little calibration tube used with a Scheumann compensator. The tubing literally disintegrated when I touched it. It was rarely checked because the Scheumann is installed behind the gear with an inspection panel access. The article pointed me to Permatex Aviation Form-A-Gasket No.3 Non Hardening sealing compound which was especially useful for the Scheumann tube replacement since the tubing I had to use wasn't the ideal fit. Also, found a leak in a vario capacity flask... And watch out for the all-in-one tubing connectors (or whatever they're called), the little o-ring in those tend to deteriorate. These are identified by multiple tubes leading into a threaded cylinder shaped connector. T-connectors are preferred over these... TIA - Lou Lou, Check out a Soaring Mag. article July 2005 by Lee Kuhle, "How's Your Plumbing" You can probably find the article archived on the SSA Web page. From memory, Mr. Kuhlke has you use Syringes of various capacities and the ASI to check the entire system for leaks. Regards, David Walsh |
