Metric Spring Steel

Anyone know where I might find a small quantoty of 20 x 3mm spring steel to rebuild the tail spring on my Ka-6?

It suffered a hard landing and one of the leafs got buggered up pretty badly. All I can find at the usual sustpects (McMaster and Grainger) is mild 1008/10018 steel in that size.

I had to do a similar search about 10 years ago,[metric square tubing] If you search Metric Steel USA you can find a few vendors, here are a couple.

Peter - try www.onlinemetals.com. They may be able to help you.

Peter you can do as I did once, buy a piece of SAE spring steel just a little thicker than you need and then bring it to any machine shop, they can shave it down to any desired thickness.

Try cross-cut saw blades and some large hand saws, possibly large bandsaw blades!

Not a bad idea! I looked at machine hack saw blades. The thickest one I could find is .1" thick and 2-1/8" high.

Not sure how 'springy' or hard these blades are, though but worth a try.
