I seem to remember live lightning maps being available, similar to radar
maps but showing lightning strikes. However I can't find them. It seems they would be quite useful for preflight, and as an onboard weather too. Anybody know where these are (or if I'm just misremembering?) Jose -- The monkey turns the crank and thinks he's making the music. for Email, make the obvious change in the address. |

Lightning Explorer is the one I use, but it is only US-based and continental US-wide: https://thunderstorm.vaisala.com/tux...r/explorer.jsp I recall reading here that the private sector was quicker to the draw in developing lightning detection equipment and quicker in restricting the data to paying customers only, which seems to explain the apparent lack of free, detailed lightning data maps in the US (or, at least as far as I am aware). -- Peter |
