Dallas-Fort Worth officials oppose new strip club near airport By Roger Yu, USA TODAY They're shocked, shocked that a strip club could be near an airport. A plan to open a strip club - called Rick's Cabaret - near Dallas-Fort Worth International isn't sitting well with the airport and other local officials. In an effort to shut it down prior to its scheduled opening on Jan. 20, airport officials plan to file a protest with state liquor regulators over a liquor license application from Rick's Cabaret, reports Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The club, to be located near the airport's south entrance, is part of a chain operated by Rick's Cabaret International, a publicly traded company based in Houston. The company has the proper permits to operate the club and wants to open in time for the Super Bowl, held this year in Dallas. Local officials are concerned that the club will hurt the city's reputation. "I'm not real happy about our flights coming in here and looking down on that signage and that kind of operation," Fort Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief told the paper. "Whether or not we can stop it remains to be seen." If the club does not receive a liquor license, it will run as a BYOB operation, allowing dancers to be totally nude. American Airlines also opposes the club, according to CBSDFW.com. "American Airlines has filed a protest against the issuance of a liquor license to Rick's Cabaret because an establishment of this kind within close proximity to American Airlines headquarters and DFW Airport poses a threat to the general welfare and safety of employees and passengers at the airport," the carrier says in a statement. "This establishment will cause an immediate increase in the amount of alcohol and traffic related incidents." Eric Langan, CEO of Rick's Cabaret, says he doesn't understand Fort Worth's opposition now since the city has approved all of its plans, according to the CBSDFW report. |
