Dan, getting out and getting the chute opened are independent of
footwear. ND is pretty flat and well plowed, but you wouldn't want to walk on the NM canyons and desert in anything flimsy. Then consider how far you may have to walk in those booties, assuming you haven't broken an ankle on landing.
