has rules about. Who has the authority to re-install the ADF and Transponders once I have them re-finished? Any A&P or does it need to be an avioniker? |

Part 43 appendix A (c)(31) says: Removing and replacing self-contained, front instrument panel-mounted navigation and communication devices that employ tray-mounted connectors that connect the unit when the unit is installed into the instrument panel, (excluding automatic flight control systems, transponders, and microwave frequency distance measuring equipment (DME)). The approved unit must be designed to be readily and repeatedly removed and replaced, and pertinent instructions must be provided. Prior to the unit's intended use, and operational check must be performed in accordance with the applicable sections of part 91 of this chapter. How about people with snarky comments about how you can 'remove anything' explain which authority that's under? -- Ben Jackson http://www.ben.com/ |

Read it again, Ben.
It says "removing AND replacing"... not "removing AND/OR replacing". Thus, it prohibits the DUAL action of removing and replacing, not simple removing nor simple replacing. That ain't snarky, that's logic and construction. Jim (Ben Jackson) shared these priceless pearls of wisdom: -He can take out anything he wants. Of course I don't have the special training A&Ps get in creative interpretation of part 43... -- Ben Jackson http://www.ben.com/ |
