Just wondered how many of you Canadian pilots fly your GA aircraft
down into US and how much problems you have with US entry/customs? |

I live in the Washington DC area and fly to/from Toronto a few times/year.
I clear customs in Buffalo. I call the customs number, tell them when I am coming, and that's it. Pay the $25 for the sticker and answer a few questions. No trouble at all. Hi, Paul,
Second last border crossing was at Port Huron, MI going to OSH. Last crossing was at Sarnia, Ont returning from OSH. No problems either way - Really treated us great. Just make sure you have up to date maps and no out of date ones on board. The US is really tight about the arrival time - ETA plus 15 minutes. Try not to be early. Hi Paul, Both Sarnia and Huron use inspectors that come down from the Blue Water Bridge at the time you say so they are a little more conserned about arrival time. The last time I cleared at Port Huron, the computer had selected me for a more complete inspection. :-( It envolved taking all baggage into the building and having them go thru it. The were friendly and polite and didn't look at my charts to check date. Now a ramp check might look at charts, but I've never had a customs check that did. Chuck |
