I doubt there will ever come a time when people in the U.S. are willing to plant a crop that can't be harvested for 150 years or so. Even with the slash pine, which is grown as a crop in the south, the stuff being harvested today is junk compared to what I used to be able to buy as 2x4s 30 years ago. Cuban mahogany (the stuff that Chippendale worked) is extinct as a lumber tree.
