Of course, I'm sure NY approach had nothing better to do and couldn't possibly have mixed up his track with that of another aircraft (sarcasm off). In any case, that sort of thing is done on occasion in the northeast corridor. Both Philly and NY controllers are infamous for it. I suspect the controller or supervisor making the call was just fishing for an admission of guilt, but I agree with the other posters about saving the track evidence, NASA report, and AOPA's legal plan.
