I look back and wonder how my instructor could have let me solo at 12
hours. I don't think he would today! I don't think things are so different. At least in the Midwest, there are still old-fashioned CFIs around who will solo you at less than 10 hours, and finish you up by 40 - 45. Will that new pilot be ready to fly into Dulles? Nope. At least in the Midwest, there are still old-fashioned CFIs around who will solo you at less than 10 hours, and finish you up by 40 - 45.
