well, in a 737-500 checklist (for the dreamfleet cockpit) the yaw damper is
switched on in quite an early stage. something like that: (battery column from top to bottom) battery, some checks, ground power, bus transfer, ... (left column from top to bottom) ..., spoilers, ..., yaw damper, .... I wrote it by memory so it might not be absolutely correct, but it should go in a quite similar order. The YD isn't turned off until shutdown (don't know about non-normal checklists). johan in article s.com, Arthur Alspector at wrote on 18.08.2004 02:30: When should the 'yaw damper' be deployed in the Boeing 737 and 777? I didn't notice the button in the 747. I have used it flying the Cessna 182S and it works well to stablize the yaw in a crosswind, but I haven't figured out if it's required in the large aircraft, especially when the autopilot is engaged.
